Job description

Description:

Ketel Thorstenson, LLP (KT) is seeking motivated interns to join our Tax, Accounting Services, and Audit Services teams. This internship is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public accounting while working alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative, client-focused environment. 

As an intern, you will build your accounting knowledge, develop professional skills, and learn what it is like to serve clients in a public accounting firm. Internship opportunities may be available in the following areas:

Tax Services: Assist with tax preparation, year-end accounting procedures, and tax research. 

Business Accounting Services: Help with bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, financial statements, payroll, sales tax reports, W-2s, and 1099s. 

Audit Services: Assist with financial statement drafting, audit procedures, review and compilation work, and audit planning. 


Essential Duties include but are not limited to:

• Learn and apply basic accounting concepts.

• Review, organize, and enter financial information accurately.

• Maintain client files and records according to firm standards.

• Communicate with clients and team members in a professional manner.

• Attend training, professional development, firm events, and team activities.

• Use Microsoft Office, accounting software, tax software, and other job-related applications.

• Follow KT policies, procedures, professional standards, and confidentiality expectations.

• Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

• Pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.

• Basic understanding of accounting concepts.

• Willingness to learn, ask questions, and take on new challenges.

• Ability to organize information, solve problems, and manage changing priorities.

• Ability to work in a professional office environment.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.

• Ability to pass a background check and motor vehicle record check.


Additional requirements may vary by department:

Tax Services: Three or more years of higher education at the start of the internship, completion of Intermediate Accounting I, and plans to pursue CPA or EA certification are preferred.

Business Accounting Services: Accounting, Finance, Business, or related major preferred.

Audit Services: Accounting major and plans to pursue CPA certification are preferred.


Preferred Qualifications:

• GPA of 3.0 or higher.

• Strong communication skills.

• Ability to work well with clients and team members.

• Interest in building a career in public accounting.


Additional Information

Work Schedule & Location:

• Temporary internship position.

• Typically 25 to 40 hours per week.

• Standard business hours, Monday through Friday.

• Internship length is generally 6 to 12 weeks.

• Timeframe options may include Winter/Spring: December through April; Summer: May through September; Fall: September through December.

• Positions may be available in Gillette or Casper.


Compensation & Benefits:

· Accounting Services Intern: $25.00 per hour.

· Tax and Audit Intern: $27.00 per hour.

· Intern housing reimbursement may be available to students who qualify.

· Interns may be considered for a future internship or full-time employment opportunity after successful completion of the internship.

· This is a non-benefited position.
