Position OverviewThe School of Psychology at Golden Gate University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position. The successful candidate will join a growing School that prepares the next generation of practitioners and applied scholars across counseling psychology, marriage and family therapy, and industrial-organizational psychology, with an emerging focus on human systems in the age of AI. The position combines teaching, program leadership, scholarship, and service. The faculty member will play a central role in the day-to-day operation, regulatory integrity, external partnerships, and strategic direction of the School's degree programs.
Reports to: Founding Dean, School of Psychology
Appointment: Full-time, tenure-track (rank commensurate with experience)
Location: Golden Gate University, San Francisco campus, with hybrid and online responsibilities and occasional domestic and international travel
Essential ResponsibilitiesTeaching- Carry a full-time teaching load across the School's graduate programs in counseling psychology, marriage and family therapy, and industrial-organizational psychology, with teaching modalities spanning in-person, hybrid (HSF), and fully online formats.
- Develop, revise, and maintain course materials, syllabi, rubrics, and assessment instruments aligned with program learning outcomes and accreditation standards.
- Mentor and advise students academically and professionally, including support for clinical development, research, and career planning.
- Provide oversight and ongoing maintenance of the clinical training program within the MA Counseling Psychology degree, including practicum and internship structures, training curriculum, and student progress monitoring.
- Monitor and ensure program compliance with licensure laws and regulations across all states in which the program operates and in which students seek licensure, including California, and adjust program requirements as state regulations evolve.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of program requirements, clinical training policies, supervision standards, and student-facing materials.
- Develop, draft, and update licensure disclosures for the program website, university catalog, and other public-facing materials in compliance with state authorization, NC-SARA, and accreditation requirements.
- Build and maintain relationships with practicum and internship sites throughout the Bay Area and across the United States, including conducting outreach, negotiating affiliation agreements, supporting site supervisors, and resolving placement concerns.
- Contribute to the continued development and expansion of the I-O Psychology internship program, including identifying new partner organizations, designing internship structures, and supporting student placement.
- Collaborate on operating procedures, documentation, and policies that serve both the Counseling Psychology and I-O Psychology programs, ensuring alignment with School-wide standards and institutional policy.
- Maintain ongoing communication and collaboration with the School's international partners.
- Represent the School of Psychology at international partner sites through occasional travel, including teaching residencies, partner meetings, and recruitment or program-development engagements.
- Coordinate and plan academic camps, intensive weeks, weekend residencies, and other events that anchor the School's hybrid and low-residency program offerings.
- Assist with class scheduling each term, balancing program needs, modality requirements, and faculty workload.
- Assist with recruitment, vetting, onboarding, and ongoing support of adjunct faculty, in coordination with program directors and the Dean.
- Maintain an active program of scholarship appropriate to rank, including peer-reviewed publication, applied research, public scholarship, or other forms of intellectual contribution recognized in the candidate's field.
- Contribute to the School's developing research agenda on human systems in the age of AI, with opportunities to participate in the Human Systems Lab and related initiatives.
- Serve on the Trainee Candidacy Committee, reviewing student progression through clinical training milestones.
- Represent Golden Gate University at, and co-chair, the Bay Area MFT Educator Consortium.
- Represent the Bay Area MFT Educator Consortium at the statewide California MFT Leadership Collaborative.
- Participate in virtual and Campus Week programming and Psychology Club meetings.
- Serve on additional School, University, and program-level committees, including admissions, curriculum, and accreditation work.
- Participate in faculty governance and contribute to the strategic development of the School of Psychology.
- Engage in professional service to the field through editorial work, conference participation, professional association leadership, or related activities.
The successful candidate will help advance the following strategic priorities for the School's degree programs:
- Align curricular and training requirements with COAMFTE and CACREP equivalency to improve the portability of degrees and maximize licensure pathways for graduates.
- Prepare learners for AI-supported legal and ethical clinical practice in a rapidly changing professional landscape.
- Modernize assessment to include a biopsychosocialtechnological lens that incorporates human systems-AI relationships.
- Implement AI tools that support clinical skill development and competency-based learning.
- Launch doctoral programs that prepare graduates for research, leadership, academic, and program-development roles in the MFT and counseling fields.
- Doctoral degree (PhD, PsyD, or equivalent) in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, or a closely related field.
- Eligibility for or current licensure as a psychologist, LMFT, LPCC, or related credential, as appropriate to the program focus.
- Demonstrated experience in graduate-level teaching, clinical supervision, or applied training.
- Working knowledge of state-level licensure regulations affecting graduate-level mental health training programs, and a willingness to develop expertise in multi-state regulatory compliance.
- Strong administrative, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
- Experience overseeing or contributing to clinical training programs, internship placement, or program accreditation, including familiarity with COAMFTE and/or CACREP standards.
- Familiarity with hybrid and online graduate program delivery, including modalities such as HyFlex or low-residency formats.
- Established scholarly trajectory and active engagement with public, applied, or interdisciplinary scholarship.
- Interest in or familiarity with the intersection of psychology, technology, and human development, including AI-supported clinical training and practice.
- Experience working with international academic partners and culturally diverse student populations.
- Experience contributing to doctoral program design or doctoral-level teaching and mentorship.
