Refrigeration Maintenance Technician

Position Overview
The Refrigeration Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing ammonia refrigeration systems and facility support equipment in accordance with Process Safety Management (PSM) standards and company safety guidelines.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting safe plant operations.


Key Responsibilities
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair ammonia refrigeration systems and plant utilities
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on refrigeration, compressed air, steam, cooling, water treatment, and warehouse equipment
• Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems, including motors, pumps, gearboxes, controls, blowers, and piping systems
• Diagnose equipment failures, perform repairs, and implement corrective actions to reduce downtime
• Complete work orders, maintenance documentation, and compliance records accurately
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, USDA, PSM, IIAR, and company safety standards
• Coordinate maintenance activities with operations teams to support production goals and equipment reliability


Qualifications
Required
• Ammonia Refrigeration Certification
• Ability to wear respiratory protection and pass a pulmonary function test
• Working knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems
• High School Diploma or GED
• 1+ year of industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing or food production OR 4+ years of direct industrial maintenance experience
Preferred
• Technical Degree, Vocational Training, or Maintenance Certification
• Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems
• Experience in food manufacturing or PSM-regulated environments
• Ability to operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and aerial lifts
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and computer skills
