What does a provision IAM professional do?

A Provision IAM (Identity and Access Management) professional is responsible for managing user identities and controlling access to systems, applications, and data within an organization. Their main duties include provisioning (creating), modifying, and deprovisioning (removing) user accounts and permissions based on business needs and security policies. They ensure that only authorized users have the right level of access to sensitive resources, helping to protect the organization from security risks and compliance issues. Provision IAM professionals often work with automated tools and processes to streamline these tasks and maintain audit trails.

Familiarity with IAM platforms such as Okta, Microsoft Azure AD, SailPoint, and relevant certifications like CISSP or CompTIA Security+ are commonly required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are crucial soft skills to excel in this role.
