We are seeking a skilled and versatile Prototype Machinist & Electromechanical Assembler to support both machining and assembly operations within our manufacturing organization.

This hands-on position is responsible for machining prototype and production components using CNC and conventional machine tools, while also supporting the assembly, integration, testing, and repair of electromechanical products and systems. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a dynamic environment where priorities can shift between machining, assembly, troubleshooting, and prototype development activities.


This role will work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations personnel to build high-quality products, support new product development, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. This position is located in Newburyport, MA and reports to the Manufacturing Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Machining Operations

  • Set up and operate 3-axis CNC milling machines to manufacture prototype and low-volume production components.
  • Program, modify, and optimize CNC machining operations as required.
  • Operate conventional machining equipment including mills, lathes, drill presses, band saws, grinders, and other shop equipment.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, work instructions, and specifications.
  • Select appropriate tooling, fixturing, and machining methods to achieve quality and productivity objectives.
  • Inspect machined components using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring equipment.
  • Maintain machine tools and work areas in a safe and organized condition.
  • Support process improvements that reduce setup times, improve quality, and increase efficiency.


Electromechanical Assembly

  • Assemble electromechanical products, subassemblies, and prototype systems in accordance with drawings, work instructions, and engineering requirements.
  • Perform mechanical assembly, wiring, soldering, cable fabrication, and system integration activities.
  • Conduct functional testing and troubleshooting of assemblies and products.
  • Support repair and rework activities as required.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality records.


Prototype Development Support

  • Collaborate with Engineering to build, modify, and improve prototype hardware.
  • Assist in fixture, tooling, and test equipment fabrication.
  • Provide feedback on manufacturability, assembly methods, and design improvements.
  • Support engineering development projects and rapid prototyping activities.
  • Participate in problem-solving and root cause investigations related to product or process issues.


Qualifications and Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or technical trade school certification required.
  • Experience operating and setting up CNC milling machines.
  • Experience with conventional machining equipment including mills, lathes, drill presses, and related shop equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and mechanical specifications.
  • Experience using precision measurement equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with electromechanical assembly, wiring, soldering, or related manufacturing activities preferred.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting prototype or new product development activities.
  • Experience in electronics, marine, defense, industrial, or technical manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Experience with fixture design, tooling fabrication, or test equipment assembly.
