Role: Packaging Engineer

Location: Fremont, CA/ Austin, Texas/ Sparks, Nevada - (Onsite)

Duration: Contract - W2

Job Description:

What You’ll Do

  • Lead end-to-end engineered packaging projects for Vehicle and Energy platforms
  • Interface with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, New Product Introduction, and Operations partners to gather and develop packaging requirements
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Logistics to drive projects to enable the most efficient delivery of parts possible without sacrificing part quality or manufacturability
  • Provide design direction and development plans of protective packaging containers, dunnage and unique shipping racks – domestic and international
  • Apply industrial design techniques of CAD, technical drawings, including datum structure, GD&T and tolerance stack up analysis
  • Monitor KPI’s and work with Packaging Design Engineers to develop world-class packaging standards and continue to improve upon them
  • Drive expendable to returnable projects and participate in sustainability initiatives; Manage project budgets, risks, and change management; Assist in vendor selection and vendor management 

Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Packaging, Industrial Design, or equivalent work experience with evidence of exceptional ability
  • Working knowledge of CAD, and technical drawings, including datum structure, GD&T and tolerance stack up analysis
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes including machining, welding, injection molding etc.
  • Strong knowledge in a large variety of materials (aluminum, steel, composites, foam, etc.); Experience with designing to standards such as ASTM, Mil-Spec, etc.
  • Strong understanding of packaging testing and validation; Capable of managing multiple priorities at once without sacrificing quality of results
  • Proficient at-risk management and communication; Team player with strong process and continuous improvement mindset
  • Travel up to 30% required
