Job description

We are SLR Consulting (Americas), a 1500+ team of advisory, environmental, engineering, and regulatory professionals across Canada, the United States, and LATAM. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. As our new Proposal Director, you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal.

Role

In this role, you'll lead SLR's North American Proposal team, an established group of professionals across Canada and the U.S., supporting sector and growth leaders to identify, shape, and win strategic opportunities across the region. You'll play a key role in evolving how proposals are developed, bringing fresh thinking, structure, and momentum to a critical business function.

You'll lead multidisciplinary bid teams across technical, commercial, legal, and support functions, ensuring clarity, alignment, and strong collaboration from opportunity qualification through submission. Working closely with the Americas Growth Director, you'll help prioritize sector client strategies, develop compelling win themes, and continuously raise the bar on how we respond to clients and the market to deliver a winning formula.

This is a handson leadership role for a proposal professional who enjoys building capability, driving change, and introducing innovative tools, processes, and ways of working. You'll need to bring energy to the team leading the development of our people, strengthening consistency and quality in our products, and transforming the proposal function into a highimpact, forwardlooking team.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and inspire a team of Proposal Coordinators/Specialists, building a highperformance, collaborative, and innovative proposal function.
  • Drive overall proposal strategy from lead sourcing through to Go/NoGo decisions, win themes, value propositions, and prioritization of RFP evaluation criteria
  • Collaborate with Sector Leaders, Account Managers and Proposal Leads on procurement priorities and resources
  • Lead Go/No-Go for strategic proposals and management of schedule and allocation of resources for proposal development and submissions
  • Provide guidance and oversight on proposal strategy, prioritizing and evaluating against RFP evaluation criteria and win themes to maximize value and win strategy
  • Develop and oversee compelling, clientfocused proposal narratives, translating complex technical inputs into clear, concise messaging that highlights SLR's differentiators and value.
  • Identify key contributors including engagement with any subcontractors / partners
  • Partner with legal and leadership teams for technical and quality reviews and approvals prior to submission.
  • Champion innovative tools, templates, processes, and new ways of working to continuously improve proposal quality and efficiency, including where automation, data sourcing, and technology can enhance processes and delivery.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop proposal talent while promoting proposal excellence across the business through training, tools, and feedback
  • Ensure overall compliance with the SLR Core Proposal Process

Qualifications/Education/Memberships:

  • 15+ years of experience in proposals, marketing, or technical writing in environmental services or related professional service environment
  • Relevant degree or recognized professional qualification
  • Proven track record leading complex, multi-disciplinary bids from strategic development to submission
  • Strong writing, editing and storytelling skills
  • Highly organized with strong project management capability managing competing priorities and deadlines
  • Effective communicator with senior stakeholders and clients, comfortable influencing and facilitating
  • Competent in analytical assessment and reporting to support bid evaluation and strategic decisions
  • Experience implementing data driven analytical tools for the improvement in processes and efficiency
