Description Burns & McDonnell's rapidly growing national Water Practice is in search of an entrepreneurial and highly driven Water Market Leader to build our presence and drive strategic growth in the Nebraska and Iowa market.

This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned professional to serve as the face of our Nebraska and Iowa Water Practice. We are looking for an individual with deep industry relationships and a passion for winning new work and managing key client relationships. This person will be a self-starter, expected to curate their own route to success by coupling their market knowledge with the Burns & McDonnell client-focused approach. While this role does not initially include direct reports, it offers the opportunity to build a practice and mentor future leaders.
The Nebraska/Iowa Water Market Leader will be responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities for a wide range of water and wastewater services, including drinking water facilities, wastewater treatment, collection & distribution pipelines, industrial water applications, and alternative delivery projects such as design-build.
Responsibilities:
  • Identify, pursue, and win new projects and opportunities with municipal and private water/wastewater clients throughout Nebraska and Iowa.
  • Develop and execute a strategic business plan to establish and grow Burns & McDonnell's market share in the region.
  • Serve as the primary client relationship manager, building and maintaining strong connections with key industry, government, and public contacts.
  • Coordinate and interface frequently with our national Water Practice leadership, collaborating with multi-discipline teams of managers, engineers, and construction professionals to connect clients in Nebraska and Iowa to our full range of services.
  • Lead the proposal process, including contract preparation and negotiation, and the establishment of critical project objectives.
  • Provide market intelligence and industry feedback to the national leadership team, informing the direction and development of emerging business opportunities.
  • Represent Burns & McDonnell at industry events and conferences, promoting our position as a thought leader in the Nebraska and Iowa water market.
  • Work with project teams on various delivery methods, including design-build and design-bid-build.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in engineering, architecture, construction or related degree from an accredited program and 13 years related professional experience in marketing, business development or sales promotion environment, experience in the A/E/C industry preferred. 15 years of related experience in the design, construction, and business development of municipal water or wastewater projects is preferred.
  • Exceptional relationships with local and statewide municipal private clients and a proven track record in the Nebraska and Iowa market preferred.
  • Nebraska and Iowa Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. The ideal candidate is a licensed engineer who has successfully transitioned into a strategic business development and client management role.
  • Previous consulting experience and experience with alternative delivery methods, including design-build, is strongly preferred.
  • Self-driven capability, including the application of intensive and diversified knowledge to a broad range of assignments and the development of new approaches to complex problems, is preferred.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Must have advanced knowledge in the use of basic computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Previous experience developing and delivering training presentations related to proposal communications, proposal strategies, business development and/or pursuit strategies.
