Job description

Description:

The Social Media Content Creator supports the Communications team in producing dynamic, on-brand content for Omaha Performing Arts, Steelhouse Omaha, and the Tenaska Center for Arts Engagement social media channels. This role blends scheduled in-office production and planning time with on-site coverage of performances and events — including evenings and weekends — capturing authentic, in-the-moment content that reflects O-pa’s mission to inspire people and enrich communities through live performance and arts education. This position requires a proven commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and the ability to model O-pa’s Core Values of Collaboration, Inclusion, Trust, and Integrity while providing excellent internal and external customer service.

Schedule Expectations

  • Part-time hours split between in-office production/planning time and on-site event coverage.
  • Regular evening and weekend availability is required to attend performances and events as scheduled in advance.
  • Event coverage schedule is set collaboratively with the Communications team around O-pa’s performance calendar, typically with advance notice.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend performances, education programs, and community engagement events — including evenings and weekends — to capture photo, video, and reel content in real time.
  • Shoot and edit short-form video (Reels, TikTok, Stories) optimized for each platform’s format and pacing.
  • Capture photography with a social-first eye for composition, lighting, and moments that reflect genuine patron and performer experience.
  • Contribute to content ideation, including trend-driven concepts, and draft captions as needed.
  • Partner with the Communications team to plan coverage priorities for upcoming shows and events.
  • Coordinate with departments across O-pa (education, patron services, venue operations) to identify and access content opportunities.
  • Support organization-wide initiatives that rely on authentic patron and event content, such as user-generated content features and digital signage.
  • Maintain organized, clearly labeled media files for team use.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Experience and Qualifications

  • Availability to work in-office as scheduled, with frequent evening and weekend availability required for event coverage.
  • Demonstrated ability to shoot and edit engaging photo/video content quickly, including in low-light or fast-moving live event environments.
  • Proficiency with content creation tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Rush, Photoshop, Lightroom), CapCut, Canva, and native platform editing tools.
  • Strong working knowledge of Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, including platform-specific photo/video specs and best practices.
  • A trend-savvy eye — able to identify emerging formats and suggest timely, on-brand content ideas.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to write concise, engaging captions.
  • Comfortable navigating live event environments (crowds, low light, tight timelines) while representing O-pa professionally.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple shoots and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible and able to perform a variety of tasks; willing to learn.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout venue spaces for extended periods during events.
  • Ability to carry and operate content-capture equipment (camera, phone rig, gimbal, etc.) for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in varied venue environments, including crowded, low-light, and high-noise settings.
