Job Description:

The Mechanical Engineering Scientist will be responsible for serving as the Air Vehicle lead for all Advanced Solutions Group (ASG) programs, within the Aeronautical Systems Engineering (ASE) Group. The individual will be an external and internal expert and thought leader with deep and substantive technical expertise as well as advanced business knowledge and leadership capabilities within our Aeronautical Systems engineering team.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for providing guidance, coaching, and training to other employees.
  • Provide high level technical oversight of pursuits, proposals, and program execution.
  • Ensure proposals are vetted for accuracy in cost, scope, and schedule.
  • Making sure programs are accomplished on schedule and within budget while complying with process/procedures and program requirements.
  • Provide input into new products, processes, standards and/or operational plans that will have measurable impact on the achievement of overall function or business results.
  • Ensure program airworthiness, customer, and company requirements are understood and met.
  • Capable of influencing a wide range of audience and having demonstrated leadership skills to win support without direct reporting structure.
  • Be able to walk to and from the flight line, work in aircraft hangar environment and board/exit aircraft is required.
  • Responsible for compiling and confidently presenting extensive technical and programmatic material both internally and externally to include Executive Leadership, Procurement Customers, and End Users.
  • Act as a technical adviser to the business area chief engineer and functional engineering leadership.
  • Negotiate and establish programmatic expectations for the ASE department.
  • Author or Co-Author ASE technical content in proposal tech volumes. Participate in proposal tech volume reviews.
  • Establishes overall direction for new processes, systems, and solutions for ASG contracts.
  • Recommends and implements strategies and develops operational plans/goals alongside the ASG Chief Engineer, ASE Functional Manager and in coordination with the ASE Department Director.
  • Understanding of aircraft systems, and various mission systems.
  • Familiarity with FAA (Part 23 and 25) and military aircraft airworthiness design approach, certification process, and requirements.
  • Working knowledge of the processes used by the downstream consumers of ASE engineering products.
  • Knowledge of manpower planning, milestone scheduling, and related financial management.
  • Capable of managing and working in an environment that is fast paced, demanding, with a focus on problem resolution and process improvement.
  • Ability to travel occasionally, to include internationally.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Outstanding communication (both verbally and written), negotiation, collaboration, time management, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 12 years of experience throughout the total lifecycle of programs, including proposals, bids, planning, assessing/managing risk, execution, and delivery.
  • Graduate Degree with 10 years of experience throughout the total lifecycle of programs, including proposals, bids, planning, assessing/managing risk, execution, and delivery.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of experience throughout the total lifecycle of programs, including proposals, bids, planning, assessing/managing risk, execution, and delivery.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • Task Lead or Product Lead experience especially on large prototype programs.
