GIS Transportation Data Specialist Expert
Location: Remote – 100%
Employment Type: Contract
Position Overview
NCDOT is seeking a highly experienced GIS Transportation Data Specialist with deep expertise in Linear Referencing Systems (LRS), ESRI Roads & Highways, enterprise GIS data management, and transportation network analytics. The consultant will support statewide transportation and roadway data initiatives involving route calibration, roadway event management, spatial QA/QC, ETL workflows, and enterprise geospatial integrations.
Candidates with transportation, roadway infrastructure, or energy utility domain experience are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, maintain, and support enterprise Linear Referencing Systems (LRS)
- Work extensively with ESRI Roads & Highways for route/event management
- Perform roadway network calibration and route maintenance activities
- Develop and optimize SQL Server queries, stored procedures, and data workflows
- Create and maintain ETL processes for spatial and tabular data migration
- Conduct GIS data validation, QA/QC, and spatial integrity checks
- Analyze transportation datasets and roadway attributes
- Support integration between GIS systems and enterprise applications
- Troubleshoot GIS data discrepancies and resolve spatial data issues
- Collaborate with business users, GIS analysts, and technical teams
- Produce mapping products, reports, and technical documentation
