Job description

Description THIS IS A PART-TIME TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT Position is Open until Filled Hours per week: Up to 29 hours Proposed Schedule: Between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Proposed Work Days: Flexible Starting Salary: Depends on Qualifications Please note: This job positing will be advertised until Friday, August 7, 2026, or upon receiving 50 qualified applicants. The Part-Time/Temporary GIS Assistant will support and assist Western Water's GIS team with maintaining various systems through a variety of tasks which may include: Performing data quality review, assessments, and improvements; Populating and updating GIS systems to improve completeness and maintain currency of data. Providing end user support for maps and data requests.

Providing as-needed support to GIS-based workflows. Examples of Duties Create, update and maintain GIS systems and databases. Update maps, and GIS data layers with data obtained from a variety of sources, including: Record Drawings - As-Builts CAD Files Maps Perform quality assurance and verify accuracy of GIS data.

Coordinate GIS revisions between multiple departments. Assist with preparing printed maps. Assist and respond to user requests and provide technical assistance as required.

Typical Qualifications Education: Associate's Degree or Certificate in GIS or related field preferred; Relevant coursework or practical experience may be substituted. Desired Experience: One (1) year as a GIS Specialist or similar role. Familiarity with the Esri suite of products, including ArcPro, ArcMap, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Portal, Experience Builder and ArcGIS Dashboards.

Desired License or Certificate: GIS Certificate or GISP (Geographic Information Systems Professional) Certification. Physical: Employees are regularly required to use repetitive motion for keyboard use and writing; frequently grasp, reach overhead, hold and reach; sit for long periods of time; occasionally walk, use staircases, stand, stoop, kneel and bend; occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds or 75 pounds with assistance; constantly use overall vision; and frequently hear and talk in person or on the phone. Mental: Employees should possess the ability to speak, read, and write English, in addition to exercising math and computer aptitude as required. Employees work under pressure with frequent interruptions while communicating and interacting with a variety of District personnel, the public, and others encountered in the course of work.

The ability to explain, interpret, and apply related rules, regulations, policies and procedures; and work on multiple concurrent assignments, often within tight timeframes using good business judgment is necessary. Environmental: Employees primarily work in a temperature controlled office environment subject to typical office noise and settings. Occasionally, noise levels may exceed typical office noise when working in server rooms or other similar areas.

Incumbents are expected to use principles of effective safety practices including the use of equipment in a proper and safe manner, use of preventative personal ergonomic techniques, and maintaining safe personal and common workspaces.
