Job description

HOTEL MANAGER | The Whit | New Orleans

Welcome to The Whit.

We're opening the doors to something extraordinary, and we're looking for the people who will help define it.

The Whit is an intimate luxury hotel housed in a beautifully restored 19th-century mansion in the heart of New Orleans. Home to 15 guest rooms, a bar, cocktail salon, library, refined food and beverage, and elegant private events, The Whit offers a hospitality experience that feels more like staying in the home of an extraordinary host than a traditional hotel.

From helping establish our service culture to creating unforgettable guest experiences and leading the day-to-day flow of the hotel, you'll play a vital role in bringing this vision to life from day one.

If you're passionate about luxury hospitality, thrive in a highly personalized environment, and are excited by the opportunity to build something from the ground up, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do:

As the Founding Hotel Manager, you'll be responsible for delivering exceptional guest experiences while leading the day-to-day operations of the hotel. Acting as the operational heartbeat of the property, you'll ensure every detail is expertly executed, and every guest feels genuinely cared for.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading daily hotel operations with a highly visible, hands-on presence throughout the property.

  • Delivering personalized guest experiences from pre-arrival through departure, anticipating needs before they are expressed.

  • Building meaningful relationships with guests, creating memorable moments that inspire loyalty and repeat visits.

  • Serving as the property's concierge by curating dining reservations, transportation, local experiences, celebrations, and special requests.

  • Coordinating closely with Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Engineering, and Events to ensure seamless communication and flawless execution.

  • Maintaining the highest standards of presentation, cleanliness, and service by conducting regular inspections and approaching each day with "fresh eyes."

  • Leading, hiring, training, coaching, and developing for guest services, support staff and housekeeping teams while fostering a culture of genuine hospitality and accountability.

  • Managing team schedules, labor productivity, and daily staffing to ensure exceptional service while maintaining operational efficiency.

  • Overseeing administrative responsibilities including guest bill reconciliation, purchasing support, departmental expense tracking, and operational reporting.

  • Resolving guest concerns with professionalism, empathy, and sound judgment while empowering team members to deliver thoughtful service recovery.

  • Establishing and refining operating procedures and service standards that become the foundation of The Whit's guest experience.

  • Collaborating closely with the Food & Beverage Operations Manager and Events team to ensure a seamless and elevated experience across every guest touchpoint.

  • Supporting the General Manager in overseeing daily hotel operations, executing strategic initiatives, managing projects and events, and continuously elevating both the guest and employee experience.

Who You Are:

You're someone who believes hospitality is about creating genuine connections and memorable experiences through thoughtful, personalized service.

You lead by example, thrive in a guest-facing environment, and enjoy mentoring others while maintaining an unwavering attention to detail. You're equally comfortable welcoming a VIP guest, coordinating multiple departments, managing administrative responsibilities, resolving operational challenges, or stepping in wherever needed to ensure an exceptional experience.

Most importantly, you're excited by the opportunity to help build something extraordinary from the very beginning.

Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of leadership experience in luxury hotels, boutique hotels, or other high-touch hospitality environments.

  • Proven success leading Front Office, Guest Services, Housekeeping, or Hotel Operations teams.

  • Experience hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and developing high-performing teams.

  • Strong administrative and financial acumen, including guest bill reconciliation, purchasing, departmental expense management, and operational reporting.

  • Proficiency with hotel property management systems (PMS) and point-of-sale (POS) systems, with the ability to quickly learn new hospitality technologies.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and operational demands while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.

  • Exceptional guest service instincts with a passion for creating personalized luxury experiences.

  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to remain calm, resourceful, and guest-focused in a fast-paced luxury hospitality environment.

  • A collaborative leadership style with the flexibility to support multiple departments and adapt to changing operational needs.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • $52,000–$65,000 annual salary

  • Performance bonus of up to 10% of base salary based on KPI achievement

  • Health and supplemental insurance

  • Paid Time Off
