Summary:
This position is located at our corporate office in Raleigh, NC and will report to the Manager, Property Tax. Martin Marietta has a vast real estate portfolio and mining operation across 28 states, the Bahamas and Canada which provides a unique opportunity to make a meaningful financial impact as a property tax professional.
As a Property Tax Manager, you will own the compliance and strategic planning efforts for a select portfolio of Martin Marietta's most complex properties. This includes taking direct responsibility for real and business personal property tax compliance, assessments, valuation appeals, and related financial reporting. This role requires proven technical tax knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to drive independent results while collaborating closely with plant operations, corporate accounting, and external consultants.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage multi-state real estate and business personal property tax compliance for a select portfolio of complex properties, ensuring adherence to local and state property tax regulations and filing deadlines.
  • Identify, research and aggressively pursue property tax savings opportunities.
  • Independently manage the valuation appeal process, with heavy emphasis on complex jurisdictions.
  • Manage monthly property tax accruals, forecasts, and true-ups using JDE and BlackLine for a select portfolio of properties.
  • Analyze real estate and business personal property tax data using Microsoft Excel and PTMS to prepare reports and analyses related to property tax liabilities and savings opportunities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, external consultants, and taxing jurisdiction personnel to support and optimize property tax strategies.
  • Adhere to and maintain Company and SOX compliance, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, business, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive real estate and business personal property tax compliance experience in a mining and/or manufacturing industry.
  • Significant experience handling appeals for a multistate portfolio, specifically including Texas.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with experience using JDE, BlackLine, and PTMS property tax software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines while working independently and collaboratively, exercising sound judgment and demonstrating accountability for results in a fast-paced environment.
  • CMI (Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation) or CPA preferred; not required.
