Food Service
Location - Propel Northside School
Propel seeks a motivated Food Service worker for our Propel Northside school based in Pittsburgh, PA. The rate for this role is $15/hr. This position works 200 days per school year. The hours for the position are 7:00am-1:30pm.
Job Summary
Propel Schools is the largest, fastest expanding charter school in the state with 13 schools throughout Allegheny County. Propel Schools is dedicated to transforming public education so that all children have access to high-performing public schools.
The Food Service Cook is responsible for the timely assembly, final preparation and service of nutritionally-appropriate and attractive meals. They will practice appropriate food handling techniques and food safety procedures in all aspects of the role. The Food Service Cook reports to the Director of Food Services.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Accurately register all sales while maintaining security of all monies in and around the cash registers. Notifies supervisor/manager of any portion discrepancies immediately.
  • Perform routine temperature sanitization assessments in accordance with department procedures and health department guidelines.
  • Perform routine duties including; sweep and sanitize, cafeteria, kitchen and appliances, oven, counter tops, carts, and tables; Sanitize work areas in accordance with department procedures and health department guidelines.
  • Proper preparation of fresh fruits and vegetables. Maintain food safety and quality while practicing proper food handling techniques.
  • Accept, process, and prepare field trip orders.
  • Receive, check, and stock delivery inventory.
  • Track, record, and report student count summary and production reports.
  • Run daily sales and activity reports.
  • Adheres to hand hygiene and infection control procedures on a consistent basis when interacting with customers.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills on a consistent basis.
  • Responsible for dropping cash deposits to the bank weekly
  • Comply with all school/department policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school degree or GED required OR 1 year experience in lieu of High school diploma/GED.
  • Ability to use Food Service equipment. Prior food service experience preferred.
  • Must possess ability to accurately count and perform basic mathematical functions
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in order to successfully complete Food Service duties.
  • Basic knowledge of computer software.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Compensation: Propel provides a competitive salary for all employees. The rate for this role is $15/hr.
  • Relocation Allowance: A relocation allowance for new hires moving to the area from 60 miles away or further.
  • Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision plan options at a low cost for individual employees and families.
  • Retirement: New hires participate in a 403(b); Propel contributes 5% automatically and matches up to 4%. This increases after 5 years.
  • Paid Leave: In addition to 2 paid Wellness Days annually, all Food Service Workers receive 5 sick days, 10 Personal Days, and accrue Vacation days at a rate of 3.332 hours per pay period.
  • Tuition Assistance: Reimbursement of up to $3,000 annually upon completion of course and receipt of grades for coursework that meets our eligibility requirements.
  • Wellness Benefit: Reimbursement of $20 per month for wellness activities including Gym Memberships, health programs, etc. Additionally, staff have the ability to earn up to $300 for participation in a Wellness Program each year.
