At 5iron, our goal is more than notification — our goal is remediation and resolution. In support of that mission, the SECURITY ENGINEER (PROOFPOINT) will perform the following duties:

JOB SUMMARY:

The SECURITY ENGINEER (PROOFPOINT) is responsible for managing, configuring, and optimizing Proofpoint email security platforms to support 24x7x365 active cyber defense operations. This role includes administering threat protection, DLP, encryption, and intelligence integrations, as well as performing security event triage and incident response. The engineer conducts regular policy reviews, resolves production issues, and ensures configurations follow industry best practices. As a key contributor to continuous improvement and documentation efforts, the engineer supports the company’s mission to deliver proactive, resolution-focused cybersecurity solutions that reduce client risk and ensure email security resilience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage existing Proofpoint Advanced Threat Protection/Email Protection platforms including Email Fraud Defense, Cloud Threat Response, Targeted Attack Protection, Emerging Threats Intelligence, Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and Encryption.
  • Implement new instances of the Proofpoint on Demand platform and configure for best practice.
  • Manage inbound and outbound security rules for email (filtering, whitelists, spam, etc.).
  • Configure threat intelligence data feeds to provide identification of additional phishing/malware instances.
  • Perform security event triage and initial incident response to detected threats.
  • Provide email security log and troubleshooting information to resolve production issues.
  • Regularly review and recommend changes to policies or controls as needed to enhance security.
  • Identify potential gaps and offer solutions to include internal team needs, product improvements and client security posture.
  • Communicate and enforce Information Security policies.
  • Coordinate with other team members and management to investigate, document, and report incidents.
  • Regularly create and maintain high quality documentation for changes and procedures.
  • Collaborate with our Threat Analysis Unit to provide indepth reports of confirmed security incidents and produce technical threat advisory broadcasts about new and emerging threats.
  • REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in information security (or similar field) with a minimum of five (5) years of cybersecurity experience. In lieu of a degree, 7+ years of relevant cybersecurity experience is acceptable.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience as primary manager of Proofpoint Advanced Threat Protection and Proofpoint Email protection platforms.
  • Strong email engineering skills; clear understanding of Message Transfer Agent configurations.
  • Strong sense of selfmotivation; ability to identify problems and develop solutions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to grow inside the platform and organization.
