Job Identification

We are seeking a knowledgeable, customer-focused Ernst Concrete Products General Manager to lead and manage the Building Supply division. This position is responsible for the division's people, daily operations, sales growth, purchasing, inventory, dispatching, delivery logistics, rebar fabrication, and coordination of colored and decorative concrete products. The manager works directly with contractors, homebuilders, homeowners, vendors, ready-mix operations, and internal sales teams to ensure customers receive the right products, technical guidance, and service.

This role combines servant-minded leadership, technical product knowledge, customer service excellence, and profitable operational oversight of counter sales, order fulfillment, inventory, fabrication, and delivery.


Description

  • Lead and manage the Building Supply division, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and staffing decisions.
  • Oversee daily operations to ensure efficient and profitable performance.
  • Review daily sales reports, monitor cash flow, manage expenses, and ensure adherence to budgetary guidelines
  • Conduct comprehensive financial analyses, reviewing profit margins, expenses, and capital expenditures, and prepare detailed reports for management review.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and serve as a trusted resource for both internal and external customers.
  • Drive sales growth through business development, customer engagement, and product promotion.
  • Manage purchasing activities, vendor relationships, and negotiation of supply agreements.
  • Ensure all plants remain adequately stocked with required building materials and supplies.
  • Coordinate dispatching and delivery logistics for Building Materials to maximize efficiency, service levels, and customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee the creation, specification, and coordination of colored and decorative concrete products, working closely with ready-mix operations.
  • Serve as a technical resource and support for customers and sales team regarding general concrete products, rebar, application instructions, concrete tools, and finishing equipment.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging products, and market opportunities.
  • Ensure required manufacturer certifications and product authorizations are maintained.
  • Understand and support equipment maintenance and repair operations.
  • Professionally operate sales counter to serve customers.
  • Maintain organized, clean, and stocked warehouse, rebar fabrication operations, showroom, and delivery fleet.

Additional Expectations

  • Able to work Monday through Friday and occasional weekends based on business needs.
  • Maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and company policy.

Physical Demands

  • Lift 80 pounds, including other related job items.
  • Able to regularly climb heights of up to 13 feet.
  • Ability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, and be in confined spaces.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Must be able to tolerate, with or without accommodation:
    • Exposure to extreme weather conditions
    • High noise levels and significant vibrations associated with construction equipment and overall job site activities
    • Walking and working of varied rough terrain conditions
  • May be exposed to construction related chemicals, this environment can include, but is not limited to, dust and other typical industrial conditions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid State-Issued Driver’s License, Class A or B, preferred
  • Ability to run a forklift
  • Candidates must be willing and able to undergo a pre-employment background check, MVR overview, physical/DOT and drug/alcohol testing. Ongoing compliance is required.
  • Proficiently read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to understand and read GPS from company issued tablet
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with internal and external stakeholders, including:
    • Management, supervisors, and peers
    • People at various social levels
  • Must be able to take orders, instructions and guidance from management and supervisors.
  • Proficient basic math skills, e.g. addition, subtraction, fractions, and percentages
  • Maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and company policy.
  • Required to have an active phone with texting or email capabilities to ensure reliable communication during work hours (Note: Usage must comply with the Ernst Cell Phone Policy, Federal, & State regulations and may not interfere with safe operation of company vehicles).
  • Proven safe driving record
  • No unexplained gaps in employment
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and being able to type proficiently on a desktop computer keyboard.
  • Communicate with customers, employees, vendors, suppliers and the public in a diplomatic manner in various stressful and challenging situations.
  • Perform all tasks within the Ernst safety requirements, policies, and guidelines as well as OSHA and state and federal regulatory requirements.
