Outside Sales Representative
Position Summary
The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for driving revenue and profitable growth within an assigned territory by developing new business, expanding existing customer relationships, and providing technical solutions that address customer needs. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, technically minded sales professional with experience selling engineered products, equipment, or services to Industrial and Power Generation customers.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a sales strategy for an assigned territory to achieve revenue and profitability goals.
  • Develop new business through prospecting, networking, referrals, industry events, site visits, and other business development activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing customers while identifying opportunities to expand accounts through cross-selling and up-selling.
  • Understand customer applications, challenges, and business objectives to identify and recommend appropriate technical solutions.
  • Sell engineered products, technical solutions, and services to Industrial and Power Generation customers.
  • Conduct customer visits, presentations, product demonstrations, and technical discussions as needed.
  • Manage the complete sales cycle, including prospecting, opportunity development, proposals, negotiations, closing, and follow-up.
  • Develop and maintain an active sales pipeline using Salesforce or other CRM tools; accurately track activities, opportunities, and forecasts.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and key suppliers to develop solutions that meet customer requirements and create value.
  • Monitor market conditions, customer trends, competitive activity, and industry developments to identify new opportunities.
  • Identify customer and business obstacles and develop effective solutions to overcome roadblocks.
  • Manage territory sales expenses and resources responsibly while consistently meeting or exceeding sales and margin objectives.

  • Proven ability to develop new business and grow existing customer relationships.
  • Strong consultative, technical, and solution-based selling skills.
  • Demonstrated success selling engineered products, solutions, or services to Industrial and/or Power Generation customers.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to understand technical applications.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a territory-based sales role.
  • Ability to analyze business and sales performance data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with Salesforce or another CRM platform and ability to effectively manage an individual sales pipeline.
  • Ability to learn new products, technologies, and technical concepts quickly.

Required Education and Experience
  • 5+ years of proven outside sales experience selling engineered products, technical solutions, equipment, or services.
  • 5+ years of experience selling to customers in the Power Generation, Industrial, or related technical markets preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record of achieving sales and profitability objectives.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field is desirable.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout the assigned territory to visit customers and prospects.
