Job description

Transdev Canada is hiring an Operations Supervisor for our Brampton, Ontario location.

Transdev Canada is actively seeking an Operations Supervisor for work on the Hazel McCallion light rail transit project.

About the Hazel McCallion LRT

Over the last two decades, Ontario's Peel region has experienced phenomenal population and business growth. By 2031, the region's population is projected to grow another 2.8%. To manage this anticipated growth, the Hazel McCallion Line will provide fast, efficient, and cost-effective mobility solutions to residents and visitors alike. The line is expected to be in service in 2028.
Under a long-term agreement, Transdev Canada will operate and maintain the line for a period of 30 years, ensuring high standards of service, reliability, and operational excellence over the life of the project. The 18 km line will feature 19 stops, travel through two urban growth centres, and connect to major transit systems including GO Transit, the Mississauga Transitway, Brampton Transit, ZUM and MiWay. Operating in its own dedicated lane, the line will provide a smooth and
reliable ride along the region's busiest street.

Employees joining the project during the pre-operation phase will play a critical role in preparing systems, processes, and operations contributing directly to the successful launch and long-term performance of the line.

Key Responsibilities

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for the following duties:

  • Oversee daily operations for all transit staff and contractual agreements
  • Supervise hourly and regular staff, and familiarize new and current operating personnel with operations, contracts, policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance to all standards and project agreements, various local and network instructions to achieve a safe, secure and customer friendly environment. Participate on task forces related to operational improvements, safety and security
  • Act as a front-line representative to minimize and resolve complaints from customers regarding employees, station conditions, transit service passenger and vehicle(s) flow, etc.
  • Act as the Incident Commander during emergencies
  • Coordinate all on-site activities and logistics and ensure the safe and prompt restoration of service in conjunction with other personnel, stakeholders and outside agencies
  • Liaise with Maintenance Department to ensure provision of continuous service and within project agreement standards
  • Operate LRV safely during revenue and non-revenue services
  • Control various transit operations related incidents, as necessary to minimize service disruption and lost time, arrange for alternate transit options and plan
    restoration actions
  • Submit recommendations regarding policies, schedules, service performance, regulations, signage, etc. with the general intention to improve overall safety and service
  • Complete a variety of documents and forms, daily, specific to transit operations and the performance management of the MHS personnel and service delivery under their direct control
  • Investigate a variety of incidents involving accidents, injuries or other occurrences that may result in claims, and submit appropriate documentation
  • Manage training, coaching and performance of staff to meet customer needs and support business goals
  • Ensure that subordinate employees participate in all sanctioned training and committees
  • Peer mentor new Supervisors and LRV Drivers in operating procedures and practices
  • Promote a respectful work and service environment that supports diversity, inclusion, and is free from harassment and discrimination
  • Helps to build an inclusive and accessible work and service environment for all employees and customers
  • Ensures the needs of employees and customers are accommodated in accordance with commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and policies.
