Reports To: Project Manager / Senior Project Manager
Compensation: $65,000 - $85,000 (depending on experience)

Position Summary
The Assistant Project Manager supports the successful planning, administration, and execution of heavy civil construction projects. Working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients, this role assists with project documentation, cost control, scheduling, procurement, and communication to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
This position is ideal for an individual looking to develop a long-term career in construction project management.
Essential Responsibilities
Project Administration & Coordination
  • Assist Project Managers with project startup, planning, and closeout activities.
  • Maintain project files, contracts, subcontracts, RFIs, submittals, permits, and change orders.
  • Coordinate project communications among field personnel, clients, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Attend project meetings and prepare meeting minutes and action items.
Cost Control & Financial Management
  • Assist in tracking project costs, quantities, production rates, and budget performance.
  • Review invoices, purchase orders, and subcontractor pay applications.
  • Support monthly cost projections, forecasting, and WIP reporting.
  • Identify potential cost impacts and communicate concerns to project leadership.
Scheduling & Procurement
  • Assist with project schedules and milestone tracking.
  • Coordinate material procurement and equipment needs.
  • Track delivery schedules and ensure timely availability of materials and resources.
Change Management
  • Assist in preparing and tracking change orders, claims, and contract modifications.
  • Maintain documentation supporting project changes and extra work.
Quality & Safety
  • Support implementation of company quality control standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in project site visits and safety meetings.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
  • Maintain professional relationships with owners, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors.
  • Provide timely project updates and assist with issue resolution.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 1-5 years of construction project experience preferred.
  • Experience in heavy civil, highway, bridge, utility, or site construction is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with HCSS, Viewpoint, Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar construction software preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments.
