About this Role - EPC Senior Project Manager
We are looking for a talented Senior Project Manager that has a passion for quality construction. This position is responsible for providing oversight, coordination, management support and technical expertise for all aspects of executing assigned major projects, including constructability support, planning/scheduling, procurement support, construction and close-out.
What You'll Do
- Work closely with discipline Project Managers and customers to assure crews and contractors are coordinated to work efficiently and meet contracting requirements, budgets, forecasts and schedules. Ensures that barriers to construction progress are removed in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate safety leadership by supporting the implementation and management of the MJE Safety Management System. Promote proactive and preventive safety activities by observing, analyzing, encouraging safe work behaviors and correcting unsafe conditions. Integrate safety into project plans, establish safety goals, reinforce safety policies and procedures, support safety training, and monitor safety metrics. Support and coach supervisors and employees, provide feedback to encourage learning and create awareness, set priorities and focus on continuous improvement.
- Responsible for thoroughly understanding project scopes, evaluating, identifying, and communicating project requirements associated with project risks to the appropriate team members ensuring MJE is compliant with contractual terms and the scoped deliverables are focused on meeting the client's exceptions.
- Define and document RFPs and scope of work packages for 3rd party EPC firms. Lead Engineering party EPC selection and engineering scope of work contract negotiation.
- Review technical and regulatory information (drawings, schematics, take offs, estimates, proposals) provided by the Owner, Client and or Engineering firm to interface with the Estimating Team and Operations to perform and interpret that information resulting in associated constructability reviews and project pricing.
- Constructability support for project development and estimating efforts.
- Assist discipline Project Managers with project scope development from project development through construction execution.
- Ensure that MJE Senior Management is kept current on the progress of construction projects, business opportunities and industry trends.
- Systematically and regularly appraise and evaluate project progress against established goals, timelines and objectives. Provide assistance to discipline Project Managers to correct deficiencies in these areas.
- Consult with project stakeholders, including but not limited to, Utilities, Clients and Owners regarding design requirements, job specifications, bid requirements and offer technical expertise regarding construction solutions.
- Understand critical design requirements of on-going projects and continuously monitor construction quality to ensure compliance within established tolerances.
- Promote and develop common systems and processes to provide for proper accounting, reporting of project costs, customer billing, scheduling, material procurement, record keeping, documentation and budgeting by discipline Project Managers.
- Interface with key internal and external customers to ensure that construction activities in affected areas are communicated and understood.
- Act to ensure key project input including environmental, regulatory and governmental relations, public relations and landowner concerns are appropriately addressed on assigned construction projects.
- Delegate activities, responsibilities, and authorities, ensuring appropriate levels and assignments of accountability are defined and understood.
- Assist in the hiring, orientation and career development of project managers, construction managers, and support staff.
- Assist with the development and tracking of key performance metrics.
- Stay current on construction management trends and ensure direct reports and discipline leads are informed of significant changes.
- Monitor equipment type, purchases, usage, inspection, maintenance, and servicing as they impact assigned projects.
- Build and promote teamwork within the construction execution team, including construction manager(s), discipline leads, project controls, quality and safety leads.
What You'll Bring
- Extensive (10+ years) electrical utility experience (overhead transmission, distribution, substation, and/or foundations/civil)
- Extensive project management skills with a track record of achievement of complex projects
- Knowledge, interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiations skills
- Strong PC skills and software proficiency
- Strong managerial/leadership skills
- Ability to provide oversight to projects throughout a large geographic area.
