Companies typically have project managers on staff, but some businesses may choose to hire an independent contractor to handle the job. As a project manager, you create plans, delegate responsibilities, supervise employees, and implement the project. Other job duties include creating a timeline and budget; once the project is underway, you monitor each step to ensure the project runs on time and does not overspend. You may also be responsible for handling communication with public agencies when necessary and providing status reports to upper management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Project Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Project Manager, you need strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills, often supported by a degree in business or a related field and relevant project management experience. Familiarity with project management software (like Microsoft Project, Asana, or Jira) and certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2 are typically required. Excellent communication, adaptability, and conflict resolution skills help you lead diverse teams and manage stakeholder expectations. These skills ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the desired quality, driving organizational success.

How does a Project Manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project lifecycle?

Project Managers play a central role in coordinating efforts across various departments such as engineering, marketing, finance, and operations. They facilitate regular meetings, set clear expectations, and ensure all stakeholders are aligned on project goals, timelines, and deliverables. Effective communication and conflict resolution skills are crucial, as Project Managers often bridge gaps between different teams to keep the project on track. This collaborative approach helps to identify potential issues early and fosters a cohesive team environment.

Project Manager - Residential Remodeling

Black Mountain, NC | Full-Time

Salary: $60,000-$70,000 annually (based on experience)
Bonus: Quarterly KPI-based bonuses
Includes: Company vehicle, phone, laptop, and uniform

Lead Exceptional Remodels-With Integrity, Craftsmanship, and Accountability

At Semper Fi Custom Remodeling, we restore faith in remodeling by doing the right thing-every project, every client, every time. We are a fast-growing, award-winning residential remodeling company rooted in integrity, professionalism, and world-class craftsmanship.

We're looking for an experienced, confident Project Manager to lead residential remodeling projects across Western North Carolina. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who values structure, accountability, and building strong relationships with clients and trade partners.

If you're driven by quality, take pride in your work, and enjoy leading projects from start to finish, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do

As a Project Manager, you'll be onsite and actively engaged in the field-but your primary function is to manage the job through strong organization, clear communication, and consistent use of company systems:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute residential remodeling projects from start to finish
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and timelines to ensure on-time, on-budget completion
  • Uphold high standards of craftsmanship and quality control
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring clear communication and satisfaction
  • Coordinate with trade partners, vendors, and internal team members
  • Maintain job site safety, cleanliness, and organization
  • Track and document project progress using project management software
  • Use digital tools to keep projects organized-logs, schedules, updates, photos, and documentation (JobTread, Microsoft Office, and AI tools)
  • Uphold company systems, processes, and performance expectations

Who You Are

You're a seasoned professional who leads by example and aligns with our values:

  • Experienced Leader: 10+ years in construction, remodeling, and project management
  • Detail-Oriented: You notice the small things that make a big difference
  • Efficient & Organized: You manage time, people, and projects effectively
  • Strong Communicator: You build trust with clients, trades, and teammates
  • Problem Solver: You approach challenges with confidence, logic, and mechanical aptitude
  • Systems & Tech-Savvy: Comfortable with computers and daily use of, JobTread, Microsoft Office Suite, and emerging AI tools; comfortable being on-camera occasionally for marketing photos/videos (jobsite updates, before/after, team content)
  • Hands-On & Flexible: Willing to jump in on-site when needed
  • Respectful: You treat clients' homes as if they were your own
  • Positive & Professional: You bring energy, calm leadership, and accountability to the job

Requirements include a valid driver's license and clean driving record, reliability in getting to job sites/on-site meetings as scheduled, and comfort using digital project management tools. A company vehicle is provided for work use (once assigned) along with a phone and laptop.

This Role Is Not for You If...

We believe clarity matters-this role may not be the right fit if:

  • You prefer minimal structure, documentation, or accountability
  • You struggle with organization, deadlines, or budget ownership
  • You avoid client communication or difficult conversations
  • You resist processes, systems, or continuous improvement
  • You're looking for a desk-only role with limited on-site involvement
  • You're not open to feedback or holding yourself (and others) to high standards

This role carries significant responsibility and autonomy and is best suited for someone who takes ownership and pride in their work.

Why Work at Semper Fi

We invest in leaders who invest in their projects and teams:

  • Competitive salary plus performance bonuses
  • Health insurance
  • PTO, sick leave, and paid holidays
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Company-provided vehicle, cell phone, laptop, and uniforms
