Team Leader Engineering (Public Works)

Location: Rhinelander, WIType: FullTime | Salaried | Primarily In Person (with flexibility as needed) | Flex Time Eligible

MSA is hiring a Team Leader to manage a high-performing Public Works team in Rhinelander, WI! The Public Works team supports a wide variety of municipal infrastructure projects across the upper Midwest, with a strong focus on the greater Rhinelander area.ย 

Due to a recent retirement, this is a unique opportunity to step right into a strong and cohesive group of Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Engineering Technicians that support common project types, including but not limited to: utilities, road reconstructions, parks/trails, stormwater, water/wastewater, and more.

All experience levels, even those who may not meet all qualifications, are encouraged to apply as we are passionate about mentoring, developing talent, and helping great people grow into great leaders.ย 

This position requires being regularly available in the Rhinelander office, and relocation assistance may be considered for candidates not currently in the area.ย

Responsibilities

Role Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor engineering staff, technicians, and project managers within the public works team.
  • Be a trusted advisor for municipal clients, county agencies, and public stakeholders.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including civil engineers, surveyors, planners, and environmental specialists.
  • Prepare and review project proposals, budgets, schedules, and technical reports.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, engineering standards, and permitting requirements.
  • Support business development efforts by building client relationships and identifying new project opportunities.
  • Provide strategic direction for public works initiatives, capital improvement programs, and long-term municipal infrastructure planning.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

What you bring

Skills & Knowledge / Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) or equivalent experience required
  • 7+ years of experience in consulting engineering required
  • Professional Engineer license (PE) preferred
  • 1+ years of experience mentoring/managing staff preferred
  • This position requires you to have authorization to work in the United States for any employer. We will not provide sponsorship for this position

  • Compensation Range: $112,240 - $179,584 (commensurate with experience)
