About this Role

Mercer Technical Services (MTS), a Quanta Services company, is seeking an Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support the execution of pipeline logistics, material management, and field services projects. This role assists Project Managers with planning, coordination, documentation, reporting, and project controls activities while gaining exposure to all aspects of project execution.

The Assistant Project Manager serves as a key support resource for rail offload operations, yard management, pipe sorting and re-racking, stringing operations, and haul-to-right-of-way (ROW) logistics. This position offers a clear development path into a Project Manager role.

What You'll Do
  • Support Project Managers in the planning, execution, and closeout of logistics and field services projects
  • Maintain project documentation, daily reports, project files, and closeout packages
  • Track production, inventory, material movement, and project performance metrics against project budgets and client requirements
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, cost trackers, and reporting tools using Excel and other project management systems
  • Assist with project setup activities including purchase orders, cost coding, vendor coordination, and approval workflows
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, third-party logistics providers (3PLs), rail carriers, and field personnel to support project execution
  • Support invoicing, change order documentation, and project reporting requirements
  • Participate in client meetings, project reviews, and operational planning discussions
  • Identify project risks, schedule impacts, and operational challenges and communicate findings to project leadership
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Construction Management, Supply Chain, Project Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
  • 2+ years of experience in project coordination, logistics, construction, material management, or related project-based environments
  • Experience supporting pipeline, energy, industrial, or infrastructure projects preferred
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and project documentation management
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with field crews, subcontractors, vendors, and clients
  • Understanding of project scheduling, cost tracking, and project controls principles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
