Job description

ROLE
WHC LLC (A Surerus Murphy Company) (WHC), is seeking to recruit a Senior Estimator for our Pipelines sector. The Senior Estimator is responsible for preparing detailed estimates for pipeline projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Preparing detailed estimates for pipeline projects.
  • Attend pre job meeting onsite.
  • Conducts pre-estimate meetings with project managers and business line management to plan bid strategy and ascertaining methods of performance based on the scope of work.
  • Determining what factors of production.
  • Determining project costs, timelines and projected revenue taking into account factors such as labor costs, material costs, equipment rental, manufacturing locations and lead times, facility costs, and required permits / licensing.
  • Helping to update and maintain our estimating database and assisting in system modifications, tool development and other tasks as assigned by the direct supervisor.
  • Analyzing drawings, specification, proposal and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Knowledge to perform check on design drawings alignment sheets, Fabrication Drawings, Civil Drawings.
  • Implementing cost estimating methodologies for each cost element and estimating the man hours, equipment cost, subcontractor cost, material costs, and other project costs; applying appropriate labor and unit cost rates and factors to the individual cost elements to establish total costs.
  • Conducts bid review meeting with the Manager of Estimating, Project Manager, and/or business line management to finalize bid, markup, and strategies. Develop and maintain during the bidding stage a Bid Book of backup documentation.
  • Soliciting and Analyzing quotations from various disciplines of subcontractors and other service suppliers; performing other estimating/cost engineering responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
  • Evaluating the costs estimated; including the application of alternative pricing; determining the risk level associated with the quotes; documenting the rationale, methodology and supporting information utilized for the estimate; supporting source selection, negotiation, fact-finding, and/or audits, and update the estimate, as required.
  • Communicate Estimating manager, project management and Superintendents to review bid strategy and assist in project buy-out.
  • Writes up and presents budgets, reports, and project plans.
  • Prepared construction schedule.
  • Prepared all deliverables and plans for bid submittal.

Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ related industry experience in estimating or project management.
  • Small & large pipeline project experience would be considered an asset.
  • Experience using MS Project, P6, or TILOS.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and project plans manuals. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Bluebeam or Adobe.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is based at our The Woodlands, TX office. Some travel may be required to project sites, home office, or other events.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Senior Estimator reports to the Estimating Manager – Pipeline.
