Job description

Overview:
The Accounting Manager - Operations position be responsible for the financial operations of the company, which includes overseeing and performing monthly work in progress (WIP) review, financial analyses, oversight of monthly billing, job setups, projections and budget. This position will direct and oversee the operations accounting staff. This position will also provide assistance to the Assistant Controller as needed.
Essential Functions:
1. Financial Oversight: 30%
  • Reviews monthly projection reports with project managers, operation directors, and VPs and attends progress meetings with these stakeholders.
  • Oversees monthly WIP analysis and reconciliation with executive leadership, ensuring revenue alignment with the annual budget and tracking job progress and project timelines.
  • Prepares any necessary monthly WIP adjustments for operations divisions.
  • Reconciles the monthly WIP to the job cost module and general ledger.
  • Ensures accurate reconciliation of intercompany job receivables and payables for proper elimination from divisional financial statements.
  • Supports the Director of Finance and CFO with receivable forecasting and provides insights on write-downs and uncollectible balances.

2. Project and Process Management: 60%
  • Oversees team attendance at project announcement meetings and conducts finance sub-meetings to ensure proper documentation for project set up with the company enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, including cost center coding, sales tax, and payroll compliance notation.
  • Oversees the entering of project original budgets and modifications, including change order modifications to contract values.
  • Oversees the detail billing for all projects, including lien waiver requirements.
  • Reviews and assists with time and materials (T&M) billing coding in the ERP system for guaranteed maximum price (GMAX) and fee-based contracts.
  • Oversees the accounting staff responsible for service billing and allocation of material usage on service jobs.
  • Assists with accounts receivable (AR) aging, reporting, and collections, reviewing aged AR with project managers, operations directors, and VPs.
  • Responds to customer and general contractor inquiries as required.
  • Participates in companywide financial group meetings to ensure continuous improvement and best-in-class financial processes.
  • Oversees the continuous improvement of the financial tools used for project management, billing, projections, budgeting/forecasting and WIP reporting.

3. Performs other special projects and tasks as assigned by the Assistant Controller: 10%
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Accounting and one to four years of relevant experience required (construction experience preferred).
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience can be used in lieu of the stated education and experience requirement.

Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, other related software.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage, or similar).

  • Able to adapt to changes in the work environment and complete tasks correctly and timely.

  • Office environment with moderate noise levels.

Physical Demands:
