Position Summary: This position is held to support Project Manager and employs a sub-ranking system within the position to distinguish skilled personnel. The ranking is incremental and consists of five levels. They are:ย

As with other professional positions in the company, the position shall plan actions, make decisions and, manage interactions with customers and suppliers to advance the companyโ€™s technical and contractual interests for quality products and to preserve profits.

Job Description:

The responsibilities include:

  1. Provide support to the Project Manager and Deputy Project Manager II as related to project management and its various activities. Performs the tactical day to day activities.
  2. Provide support to Project Manager for managing Project Coordinators daily activities.
  3. Provide support to Project Manager for the management of the KRC major vendors during the production, delivery and warranty stages of the project.
  4. Manage the Project Correspondence process. This includes letters, meeting minutes and memo writing.
  5. Manage databases for project deliverables and tracking of project action items and providing proper tracking metrics to Project Manager.
  6. Monitor and report schedule status and progress of milestones, FMIโ€™s, and other activities related to the project.
  7. Manage the closure of project deliverables.
  8. Understand risk management and mitigation. Address and resolve critical issues (i.e. cost, schedule, technical risk) of the project by developing and executing action plans.
  9. Understand contract requirements.
  10. Understand subcontract with vendor(s).
  11. Attend/Conduct Project Management meetings at the Customers, Sub-contractor or Kawasaki sites both nationally and internationally.
  12. Plan and execute actions for contract financial milestone achievement,
  13. Negotiate with supplier up to approval stage for work to be done by Kawasaki on behalf of the supplier. To be supported Project Manager or Deputy Project Manager II.
  14. Kawasaki/Customer interface during meeting (I.E. design reviews/reliability meetings) keeping design within the scope of work and claiming extra work as required per contract.
  15. Support Project Manager for all activities related to the Project Execution Team (โ€œPETโ€) and the Project Cost Management Group (โ€œPCMGโ€) meetings.
  16. Interface with internal departments, customers, vendors as well as KRCโ€™s affiliates (โ€œKawasaki Railcar Manufacturingโ€ (KRM) and โ€œKawasaki Motors Manufacturingโ€ (KMM)).
  17. Prepare for any report required by Project Manager or Customer for the Project Managerโ€™s review and submittal to Customer.
  18. Support Project Manager for administrative activities like project letter process to Customer and/or vendor(s).

Job Requirements:

  1. Excellent communications skills with a minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, project engineering or project administration.
  2. Bachelor Degree in Mechanical and or Systems/ Electrical Engineering.ย 
  3. Mechanical, Systems, or Electrical design experience preferred.
  4. Railcar design experience preferred.
  5. Knowledge and experience in the rail industry or closely related industry.
  6. Skilled in meeting management and coordination.
  7. Good interpersonal, communication and computer skills.
