You must be an effective communicator to liaise with different departments and teams. You can find project management jobs in engineering, aerospace, consulting, pharmaceuticals, and in almost every major industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Project Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Project Manager, you need strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities, generally supported by a bachelor's degree and relevant project management experience. Familiarity with project management software like Microsoft Project, Asana, or Jira, and certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2, are commonly required. Excellent communication, adaptability, and stakeholder management are vital soft skills that enable effective collaboration and conflict resolution. These skills ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget, and with satisfied stakeholders.

Project managers often encounter challenges like miscommunication, conflicting priorities, and varying work styles when coordinating cross-functional teams. To address these, it's important to establish clear communication channels, set well-defined goals, and foster a collaborative environment. Regular check-ins and transparent progress updates help align team members and ensure accountability. Additionally, understanding each department's unique perspective enables the project manager to anticipate and resolve conflicts proactively.

It involves setting clear goals, allocating resources, managing budgets, and ensuring that project milestones are met on time and within scope. Project managers coordinate teams, handle risks, and communicate with stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery. Job description

Description
About Orano USA - Project IKE
Orano USA is a leading supplier of nuclear fuel cycle solutions supporting U.S. energy security and advanced reactor deployment. Project IKE is the company's flagship investment to expand domestic uranium enrichment capacity and strengthen the nation's long-term independence from foreign fuel supply chains.
Project Overview
Project IKE is Orano USA's multibillion-dollar uranium enrichment facility under development in Oak Ridge, Tennessee-the largest private investment in the state's history. The facility will produce LEU and HALEU to fuel today's commercial reactors and next-generation advanced reactor designs. In early 2026, the project secured $900 million in DOE funding and advanced key regulatory milestones with the NRC, including submission of its Environmental Report and full license application. Spanning 750,000 square feet on a 920-acre DOE site, the facility will be one of North America's largest enrichment plants and a critical response to U.S. nuclear fuel supply vulnerabilities ahead of the 2028 ban on Russian uranium imports.
About the Project Management Office
The Project IKE Project Management Office (PMO) serves as the central nerve center of the project's planning, governance, and execut ion. The PMO integrates and coordinates the work of multiple specialized functions to ensure the project advances on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with regulatory and commercial commitments.
As an intern embedded within this team, you will gain direct exposure to all of these functions and contribute meaningfully to the PMO's ongoing work during a pivotal phase of the project's development.
Position Summary
The PMO Summer Intern will be embedded within the Project IKE PMO team and will support the Project Manager and broader team across strategic analysis, stakeholder communications, project coordination, and business support functions. This is a substantive, hands-on role - not a standalone intern project - and the selected candidate will contribute directly to live workstreams at a critical juncture in the project's licensing and development timeline.
The ideal candidate brings a foundation in strategy, marketing, and project management, and is eager to apply those skills within the context of a high-profile, technically complex, and nationally significant infrastructure project. This role offers rare early-career access to the full scope of how a major capital project is managed, governed, and communicated.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities below reflect the primary areas of contribution; specific assignments will depend on project priorities during the internship period.
Strategic Analysis & Reporting
  • Develop and support executive-level briefings, project status reports, and decision-support materials for PMO leadership and senior stakeholders
  • Research and synthesize information on industry trends, regulatory developments, competitive dynamics, and stakeholder considerations relevant to Project IKE
  • Assistin preparing materials for governance reviews, milestone reporting, and internal leadership presentations

Project Coordination & Administrative Support
  • Support tracking and management of PMO action items, milestones, and deliverables across functional areas
  • Assistin organizing andmaintainingproject coordination tools, meeting agendas, and follow-up documentation
  • Contribute to the development of project schedules and work plans in coordination with the Project Administrator and PMO Project Manager
  • Support document control and filing processes in collaboration with the Document Management Specialist

Stakeholder Communications & Outreach
  • Contribute to internal and external communications materials, including project updates, stakeholder correspondence, and outreach content
  • Assist in aligning messaging across technical, commercial, and regulatory workstreams to ensure clarity and consistency
  • Support development of marketing or positioning materials related to Project IKE's mission and progress as needed

Commercial & Business Support
  • Assist the Cost Control Manager and Project Estimator with data organization, analysis, and reporting
  • Support the Risk Manager in tracking, updating, and summarizing risk registers and mitigation plans
  • Provide research and analytical support to commercial and strategic initiatives led by the PMO Project Manager and Project Support Analyst
