Location Description

Michael Foods, Inc. located in Lenox, Iowa and often called the "Pearl of the Prairie" is where you can find small town living, focused on family and friends, with big city amenities not far from reach in Des Moines, Omaha, and Kansas City. Located in southwest Iowa, Taylor county, with a population of around 1400, the Lenox area reaches far beyond the city limits with beautiful and productive fields of corn, beans, and other croplands. Lenox holds an amazing four day Rodeo every July and is home to a beautiful 36-9 hole golf course, several fishing and boating lakes, great area hunting, a beautiful city park with swimming pool, and many picnic parks. The MFI location in Lenox produces primarily pre-cooked egg patties. Responsibilities
What This Role Is About

This is a great opportunity for a recent graduate or earlycareer accountant to build a strong foundation in cost accounting and manufacturing finance while working handson in a plant environment. As a Plant Cost Accountant, you’ll learn how production activity turns into financial results and gain exposure to inventory, standard costing, SAP, and monthend accounting processes.

You’ll work closely with both operations and finance teams, developing practical skills, learning the business, and contributing to decisions that impact plant performance. Safety, food safety, quality, and compliance are at the center of everything we do—and you’ll be supported as you grow into the role.

What You’ll Learn & Do
  • Support weekly plant reporting, including production results, efficiencies, downtime, shrink, and reconciliations.
  • Review daily production data and help translate it into clear, accurate financial reporting.
  • Gain handson experience managing inventory for raw materials, WIP, rework, chemicals, and finished goods, including:
    • Assisting with cycle counts and physical inventories
    • Investigating differences and helping resolve variances
    • Learning SAP inventory transactions and controls
  • Help with material setup and maintenance in SAP as new items are introduced or updated.
  • Assist with standard cost updates and learn how costs are built and maintained in a manufacturing environment.
  • Participate in monthend close activities, including journal entry preparation and account reviews.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities and understand how plant costs roll into financial plans.
  • Help develop and improve reports that support plant leadership and operations.
  • Take part in projects and process improvements, building both technical and business skills.
  • Learn and follow SOX controls, inventory policies, and best practices.
  • Actively support safety, food safety, quality, and GMP standards as part of daily work.
  • Participate in plant safety and continuous improvement initiatives.
