Job description

Project Engineer II - Commercial Construction
Take the next step in your construction career with an employee-owned company.
HC Company is seeking an experienced Project Engineer II to join our commercial construction team. This is not an entry-level PE position. We're looking for someone who understands the construction process, can take ownership of key project controls, and is ready to play an active role in driving projects from preconstruction through closeout. You'll work alongside Project Managers and Superintendents on a diverse portfolio of commercial projects, including healthcare, veterinary, education, industrial, and retail construction.
As an employee-owned company (ESOP), our employees have a direct stake in the work we do and the company we're building.
What You'll Do
  • Own and manage RFIs, submittals, procurement tracking, project documentation, and closeout activities.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and submittals to identify scope gaps, coordination issues, and constructability concerns.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, architects, engineers, and owners to resolve project issues.
  • Support subcontractor buyout, contracting, change management, cost tracking, and material procurement.
  • Track long-lead materials and critical project activities to support schedule commitments.
  • Participate in project, subcontractor, pre-installation, and coordination meetings.
  • Support field operations through drawing interpretation, documentation, issue resolution, and coordination between trades.
  • Participate in QA/QC and site safety efforts and help ensure project requirements are being met.
  • Maintain accurate and timely project information using Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, Microsoft Office, and other project management tools.
  • Identify issues early, develop solutions, and communicate impacts to the project team.
  • Mentor and support less-experienced team members as opportunities arise.
What You'll Bring
  • 3+ years of Project Engineer or comparable commercial construction experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent construction experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of RFIs, submittals, drawings, specifications, procurement, change management, and project closeout.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and identify coordination and constructability issues.
  • Experience with Procore and Bluebeam strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, follow-through, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and independently drive assigned work to completion.
  • A team-oriented mindset and desire to continue developing toward increased project management responsibility.
Why HC Company?
  • Competitive salary starting at $95,000+, based on experience
  • Company-funded Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) retirement benefit
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Professional development and advancement opportunities
  • Diverse commercial project experience
  • Meaningful responsibility and direct exposure to project leadership
  • A culture built around integrity, teamwork, respect, accountability, professionalism, and innovation

At HC Company, we believe in Building Relationships, Exceeding Expectations. We're looking for an experienced Project Engineer who is ready for greater responsibility, wants to continue developing toward project management, and wants to build a long-term career with an employee-owned commercial contractor.
