Job description

Amentum is seeking a high performing Project Engineer II to lead the technical execution of High Hazard / High Consequence projects. The Project Engineer II is responsible for the technical oversight of engineering activities for simple to complex design projects. Project Engineers maintain a close working relationship with Project Managers, Project Engineering Managers, Supervising Discipline Engineers, and Managing Discipline Engineers to ensure superior engineering performance. Project Engineers are assigned to lead smaller teams of Supervising Discipline Engineers on small-to-mid size design scopes and/or during later project phases (Construction support) or may lead a discrete subset of disciplines on large-scale complex projects.

This is a great position for those who seek solving technical challenges with an entry into project management. Supporting the technical execution of projects for the Department of Energy, Department of Defense, Commercial Nuclear, and other Industrial markets, the Project Engineer II applies both engineering knowledge, management and leadership skills throughout the full lifecycle of projects. The Project Engineer II must possess a high aptitude for coordinating multi-disciplinary technical teams (Supervising Discipline Engineers), through the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPCm) project lifecycle.

On a typical day, the Project Engineer II will lead either one or more Supervising Discipline Engineers assigned to the project. Primarily inward facing to support the needs of Engineering, the Project Engineer II will communicate technical objectives to the Project Engineering / Project Manager. As the project's technical lead, the Project Engineer II will establish a reporting structure on their project(s) that will promote open communications to ensure timely identification of challenges or issues that may pose risk to the project, the organization, and/or Amentum as a whole. The Project Engineer II must demonstrate exceptional control of scope, cost and schedule, while possessing strong technical knowledge across a diverse suite of engineering disciplines. One of the key responsibilities of the Project Engineer II is to coordinate design across multiple disciplines and remove roadblocks that prohibit the successful completion of design work in accordance with scope, cost, and schedule requirements. Reporting to the Project Manager or Project Engineering Manager, the Project Engineer II:

  • Coordinates the design of a technically sound, safe and operable facility with a high degree of reliability, demonstrating a robust technical command, organized administration of design requirements, and efficient execution of design activities to meet safety, scope, budget, schedule, and quality requirements, ensuring adherence to industry codes, regulatory requirements and sound engineering practices

  • Implements the project's technical work plan in accordance with the Statement of Work (SOW), technical and functional requirements

  • Has the basic knowledge of working with Supervising Discipline Engineers to define scope, labor-hour requirements and schedules for each discipline consistent with the project requirements.

  • Leads multi-discipline technical coordination meetings, which includes interfaces with the customer

  • Assures proper documentation of meetings, agreements, conversations, etc. that affect the conduct of the project.

  • Leads planning and scheduling of engineering tasks for discipline(s).

  • Supports the Project Manager in pertinent aspects of change order management, which includes leading the technical change control process, training Supervising Discipline Engineers and other team members to identify potential changes occurring within their discipline.

  • Coordinates the Inter-Discipline and Client Design Reviews, which includes reviewing engineering comments, ensuring responses are complete and provided in a timely manner, and is incorporated in the following deliverable/design packages.

  • Serves as direct line manager for RFIs and supplier submittal review packages

  • Prepares and submits reports and forecasts on the status of Engineering to the Project Manager / Project Engineering Manager.

  • Prepares and issues Engineering Execution Plans (e.g., pre-job briefs), and ensures that all necessary and appropriate customer requirements, procedures and standards are incorporated.

  • Reviews and reports on engineering performance on the project to ensure quality, conformance with conceptual design and completeness of engineering tasks.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline from a four-year ABET accredited university.

  • Experience: 10+ years total engineering experience with at least 3 years of this experience in a supervisory role. Must have a Professional Engineering License(s) in Good Standing, with ability to obtain licensure in various states. [Key Selection Criteria]

Leadership

Demonstrated experience in:

  • Multi-discipline work coordination, leading technical teams in an Architectural / Engineering (AE) setting, specifically in disciplines such as Civil, Structural, Architectural, Mechanical, Chemical/Process, Electrical, Controls, Specialty Design, throughout the full EPCm lifecycle. Candidate must be able to discuss past or current experience leading multi-discipline groups (example: lead a team of engineers in working groups such as Civil/Structural/Architectural, Mechanical/Piping/HVAC).

Security Clearance

  • Candidate must be a US Citizen. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

Travel

  • Position will require 25% travel.

Compensation

HIRING SALARY RANGE:$145K - $175K (Annually) (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
