Job description

The Project Development Engineer supports Corixโ€™s district energy portfolio growth by assisting with project and business development functions. This role supports the development of new district energy projects from the prospect stage through investment approval and regulatory application, while also contributing to front-end business development efforts.


The Project Development Engineer collaborates cross-functionally with technical, commercial, regulatory, and finance teams to help develop compelling energy solutions and advance strategic opportunities. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, business acumen, and relationship-building skills to support project delivery and contribute to Corixโ€™s growth ambitions.


This position reports to the Associate Director, Development and collaborates closely with other members of the Development team. It is well suited for an early-career professional seeking to build a long-term career in sustainable energy infrastructure and district energy.

Project Development

  • Support the development of district energy projects through feasibility, technical and financial due diligence, managing overall project deliverables and timelines.ย 
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure alignment in technical, financial, operational, and regulatory strategies.ย 
  • Support early-stage project development through meeting coordination, background research, reviewing financial models and preparation of technical and commercial content.
  • Assist with preparing memos and presentation, supporting overall development of business cases for internal approvals and external presentations.ย 
  • Support external consultant coordination, document management, invoice approvals and associated administrative work.

Business Development

  • Support the Business Development team to identify and qualify new opportunities.
  • Assist with the preparation of proposals, responses to RFPs/RFEOIs, and early-stage opportunity assessments.
  • Contribute to early-stage deal development through research, analysis, and coordination.
  • Participate in customer and stakeholder meetings to advance relationships and position Corixโ€™s value proposition.
  • Assist with CRM updates and funnel tracking.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team on the preparation of presentation and external materials.

Strategic & Commercial Execution

  • Support commercial agreements including preparation of NDAs, MOUs, term sheets, and other service agreements in coordination with the Legal team.
  • Assist with financial modeling inputs and business case refinement.
  • Support or contribute to grant funding applications and strategic partnerships.

Innovation

  • Promote the adoption of innovative technologies and delivery models that enhance project outcomes.
  • Review technical models in depth and suggest refinements.ย 
  • Contribute to the refinement of internal development processes and tools.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support relationship management with municipalities, developers, consultants, and other key stakeholders.
  • Participate in industry events and conferences to elevate brand awareness and identify new opportunities.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
  • Eligible for registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC
  • Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience in the energy, utilities, or building sector, with exposure to HVAC, district or thermal systems considered an asset.ย 

Technical Skills

  • Experience in supporting project development, feasibility analysis, and proposal / presentation preparations. Good understanding of building HVAC and district energy system design, energy economics, would be an advantage.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $65,000 โ€“ 75,000 annually, based on relevant experience and qualifications.
