Job description

The Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) is seeking a Destination Development Manager to cover most of the Virginia Mountains and portions of Central Virginia Regions. Working with tourism industry partners, the manager will facilitate the development of community-based tourism programs, new products, and tourism-related businesses. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide tourism strategic planning, technical assistance, and product development guidance
  • Present to local, regional, state, and federal organizations
  • Provide cooperative marketing assistance to communities and small tourism-oriented businesses
  • Connect tourism industry representatives and small businesses with VTC services

Skills:

  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Experience with prioritizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team environment
  • Exhibit sound judgment in making decisions and maintain confidentiality on sensitive matters
  • Comprehensive knowledge of tourism development and marketing, economic development planning, entrepreneurship, professional leadership, and community development
  • Considerable knowledge of strategic planning, goal setting, community visioning and value development, and project planning and implementation preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite

Experience:

  • Experience in business, public administration, marketing, tourism, hospitality, or related field preferred

This position will have the ability to telecommute, have access to reliable internet connectivity, and the discipline to work independently from a home office within the service area. Considerable travel and evening meetings within the served regions, including regular trips to the Richmond office will be required. A valid driverโ€™s license is required
