Job description

Position Summary
The Development Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing fundraising initiatives that support the mission and strategic priorities of Veterans Place of Washington Boulevard. This position leads grant writing and management efforts, ensures grant compliance, cultivates donor relationships, coordinates fundraising campaigns and special events, and assists with the organization's overall development strategy. The ideal candidate is an organized, detail-oriented professional with strong communication skills and a proven ability to secure and manage funding from multiple sources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Grant Writing & Management
  • Research, write, and submit competitive grant proposals to private foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
  • Prepare letters of inquiry, grant reports, budgets, and supporting documentation.
  • Track grant deadlines, reporting requirements, and compliance obligations.
  • Monitor grant performance and ensure adherence to all funder requirements.
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather outcome data and prepare compelling reports.

Fund Development
  • Assist in developing and implementing an annual fundraising plan.
  • Identify and cultivate new funding opportunities from individuals, corporations, foundations, and public agencies.
  • Maintain relationships with existing funders and donors through ongoing communication and stewardship.
  • Support major gift cultivation and donor engagement activities.
  • Assist with annual campaigns, direct mail, online giving, and donor recognition initiatives.
  • Manage event logistics, sponsorships, volunteers, vendors, and event budgets.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, communications, business, public administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in:
    • Fundraising
    • Grant writing
    • Fund development
    • Grant compliance
  • Demonstrated success securing grant funding.
  • Experience planning and coordinating special events.
  • Strong strategic planning and project management skills.
  • Excellent written, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
