Summary:

Onset Technologies is seeking a highly motivated Project Controls Specialist with experience in project scheduling, cost forecasting, reporting, and project performance analysis. The ideal candidate will support active project teams through schedule management, Power BI reporting, financial tracking, and cross-functional collaboration across engineering, procurement, construction, and finance teams. This role requires strong analytical abilities, communication skills, and the ability to work independently in fast-paced project environments.

Job Description:

The Project Controls Specialist will be responsible for developing and maintaining project schedules, supporting cost forecasting activities, and preparing performance reporting packages for leadership teams. This individual will work closely with project managers, field teams, finance, and stakeholders to monitor project progress, identify risks, and support successful project execution.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Primavera P6, Power BI reporting, and project financial analysis within engineering, construction, manufacturing, or capital project environments. This role also requires the ability to learn new systems quickly and support evolving business processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, update, and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6 while ensuring alignment with project execution plans.
  • Prepare and deliver Power BI dashboards and reporting packages to communicate project schedule status, cost performance, risks, and trends.
  • Present project updates, forecasts, and performance insights to internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Support cost forecasting, budget development, variance analysis, and monthly project performance reviews.
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable (AP) teams to validate invoices, track commitments, and ensure accurate cost reporting.
  • Assist with change management processes including tracking change requests and evaluating project impacts.
  • Monitor project progress, identify deviations, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain project documentation, schedules, logs, and reporting repositories.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, construction, and finance teams to support integrated project planning efforts.
  • Travel to project sites or partner locations as needed (approximately 25%) to support field operations and validate project progress.
  • Learn and adopt new software tools, systems, and reporting platforms as business needs evolve.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–7 years of experience in project controls, scheduling, cost management, or related project support functions.
  • Strong proficiency with Primavera P6.
  • Experience developing and maintaining Power BI reports or similar reporting/visualization tools.
  • Strong understanding of cost forecasting, project financials, and earned value concepts.
  • Familiarity with Accounts Payable (AP) workflows and invoice tracking processes.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex data clearly.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in fast-paced environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new software platforms and evolving business processes.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience supporting engineering, construction, manufacturing, or capital projects.
  • Exposure to ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle.
  • Knowledge of risk analysis, change management, and Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Experience working with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.
