PROJECT ENGINEER I


THE OPPORTUNITY

Are you looking to be part of a growing construction company that values quality craftsmanship, teamwork, and professionalism? Sun Construction, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer to join our team and contribute to our reputation as a contractor of choice on Hawaii Island. Candidates must reside in Hawaii Island.

As a Project Engineer I, you will play a critical role in the success of our projects, working closely with project managers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure efficient execution, cost management, and quality assurance

Key Responsibilities


Project Coordination & Procurement

  • Assist the Project Manager in project buyout timely for cost controls.
  • Support purchasing activities, ensuring cost-effective decisions.
  • Develop and maintain accurate subcontractor scopes of work.
  • Negotiate pricing and contracts with vendors and subcontractors.
  • Fully reviews drawings & specifications in preparation of subcontractor scope.
  • Understands contract documents and identifies gaps in the systems.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain and update project logs (RFI, Submittals, Change Orders, etc.).
  • Assist with the preparation of Division 1 documents and product submittals for approval.
  • Ensure timely submittal tracking and approvals.
  • Utilize the latest company software for document controls
  • Prepare weekly project updates and meeting agendas/minutes.

Subcontractor & Client Management

  • Maintains open communication with subcontractors.
  • Works with PMs and Superintendents to recognize underperforming subcontractors timely with project notifications.
  • Reviews subcontractor change order proposals for accuracy of quantities, conformance with contract documents and subcontractor scope of work.

Project Execution, Safety & Quality Control

  • Work with field teams to maintain project schedules and minimize delays.
  • Assist with site safety enforcement in collaboration with superintendents
  • Identify quality issues and coordinate resolution efforts.
  • Review and preparation of APPs and AHA's
  • Assists with preparation of documents, coordination and execution of pre task meetings
  • Provide QC documentation requirements
  • Provide Daily Report

Project Closeout

  • Conduct pre-punch list walkthroughs.
  • Coordinate subcontractor closeout documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with project closeout timelines.
  • Works with PM in collecting all the close out documents.

Estimating and Proposal Development

  • Assist with estimating tasks including taking off and qualifying material quantities, labor and equipment, and other related work.
  • Assist with proposal preparation including past performance reviews, technical write ups, formatting and other related work

Owner Relationships

  • Proactively thinks about owner issues.
  • Handles clients' needs with a sense of Urgency.
  • Adapts to different client's individual personalities, needs and wants.
  • Handles misc. owner requests without objection.
  • Participates in Owner, Architect Contractor meetings.
  • Understands and exceeds client expectations.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or Related field.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat
  • Industry Knowledge:: Understanding construction contracts, OSHA safety regulations and permitting and adherence to safety rules and completion of company-specific safety orientation.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Be able to work in a team environment and adhere to the company's core values of Accountability, Honesty, and Effective Communication.
  • Transportation:: Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites

Work Environment & Physical Demands

:

  • Moderate noise level in office and job sites.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, sit, and reach with hands/arms as required.
