Job Title: Project Accountant 

Placement: Permanent

Report to: Controller

Location: Central Edmonton

Type: On-site

Hours: Full-Time

Compensation: $80,000 to $95,000 per year


Our client, a rapidly growing construction company based in Edmonton, is seeking a Project Accountant to join their team. This opportunity is a great fit for an intermediate Project Accountant or Accountant with construction experience who wants to join a growing organization and take on more responsibility as the company continues to expand.


Position Overview:

  • Monthly processing of accounts receivable invoicing, including prime contract change orders, reconciling prime contracts to billing sheets and labour charge-out rates.
  • Investigate all project expenses not billed to customers.
  • Record corporate overhead allocations to be applied to project billings.
  • Bimonthly distribution of aged receivables and responding to requests for information from owners.
  • Perform the day-to-day processing and payment of accounts payable transactions, including purchase order verification.
  • Verify that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures (statutory declarations, WCB, prepaids, deposits).
  • Review project budgets to ensure accuracy of recording accounts payable.
  • Work with the Project Team to ensure accuracy of invoice submissions, assisting with owner communications and responding to requests for information from the project teams.
  • Project clean-up and reconciliation on a quarterly basis, or upon substantial completion.
  • Maintenance of vendor information.
  • Attending project start-up and close-out meetings.
  • Vendor statement reconciliation.
  • Preparation of the bank reconciliation.
  • Processing expense reports.  


Must Have Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience as a Project Accountant or Accounts Payable Clerk
  • Accounting experience within the construction industry
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, & PowerPoint
