Job description

Job Title: Engineering Intern โ€“ Mechanical/Electrical/Civil/Struct/Mining

Department: Engineering

Reports to: Discipline Lead

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THIS JOB (Summary)

Assists the associated engineering department or project site in general duties.

Potential design involvement includes support on the following mechanical systems: pumping, piping, basic mechanical actuation, hydraulics, pneumatics, hoisting, and HVAC.

Potential design involvement includes support on the following electrical systems: MV Power Distribution, LV Power Distribution, PLC & I/O controls, motor controls, fiber optic communications, leaky feeder communications, hoisting, and Process and instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).

Potential involvement includes the following mining engineering duties: planning and supervise mine activities, support reports, estimating, bids, and feasibility studies.

Potential involvement includes the following civil/structural engineering duties: concrete foundation, steel framing, work deck, headframe, shaft steel, conveyor supports, trusses, shaft conveyances, and feasibility studies.

All work is in support of mining and mineral processing projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Functional Responsibilities (as applicable)

  • Work with the associated engineering department in support of project needs
  • Under the supervision of the department lead, model electrical/mechanical/civil/structural/mining and control/piping systems using Autodesk Products
  • Review drawings, specifications, and lists for accuracy.
  • Research components and assist in the development of engineering standards.
  • Help the engineering group in any capacity as needed.

Mining Engineer Responsibilities (as applicable)

  • Complete detailed engineering for mining projects, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies and providing mining input on proposals/bids.
  • Design engineering related to mine planning.
  • Report writing and analysis.
  • Engineering project management including weekly reporting, design change notice management and capital estimate management.
  • Assisting the contracting and Business Development groups with tendering work and estimation.
  • Site assistance as required.

Health & Safety

Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Cementation

  • Incorporate Health and Safety considerations in all functions and daily activities of the position.
  • Monitor work environment for health and safety hazards or infractions and reports the same to Health and Safety Department

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Mechanical Engineering Intern - Currently enrolled in an ABET accredited program in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Electrical Engineering Intern - Currently enrolled in an authorized Autodesk Training Center (ATC) accredited program.
  • Mining Engineering Intern โ€“ Currently enrolled in Mining or Mining Construction
  • Civil/Structural Engineering Intern โ€“ Currently enrolled in an ABET accredited program in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum Sophomore year, Junior or Senior preferred
  • Mining construction experience is preferred. Construction experience is beneficial.

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication

  • Possess problem solving, critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment as well as an individual contributor.
  • Highly capable in Excel and Word
  • General knowledge of applicable mining regulations, safety codes and acts preferred.
  • Experience in CAD, AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit, MEP-Electrical, RISA, or SAP Programs (As applicable to discipline) preferred.
  • MSHA Underground Certification preferred.
  • Demonstrate positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow in an engineering capacity.
