Job description

  • JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
    • Performs the duties of Pharmacy Intern as prescribed by state and federal statutes, as well as Samaritan Health Services policies. Prepares and dispenses medication, assesses clinical status of patients (neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics). Educates and counsels patients regarding medication therapies under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Performs a broad range of technical and clinical support functions under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
  • DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
    • The Pharmacy teams at Samaritan Health Services are staffed by the area's leading experts on thousands of medications and make decisions that help optimize a patient’s drug therapy.
  • EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
    • Current unencumbered Oregon Board of Pharmacy Intern license required.
    • Successful completion of first year PharmD school required.
    • Must remain student in good standing with an accredited pharmacy school until graduation.
    • All job offers are contingent upon the candidate passing a pre-employment/post offer drug screen.
    • Healthcare Provider Level BLS required within 90 days of hire.
  • KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
    • Communication - Ability to perform group presentations and listen to and understand complex information and ideas. Possess proficient communication skills (oral and written) in dealing with hospital employees, customers, and external organizations.
    • Computer Literacy - Knowledge of electronic equipment, computer hardware and software, including applications and programming. Possess proficient computer skills in writing, MS Word documents, spreadsheets, MS Powerpoint presentations, quality reports, and data input.
    • Social Perceptiveness - Ability to work with a diverse population from pediatrics to geriatrics. Basic understanding of age-related differences in caring for and/or communicating with patients and caregivers. Possess personal sensitivity to the needs and experiences of others and a non-judgmental attitude towards persons of differing standards, values, lifestyles and ages. 
    • Team Building - Possess the knowledge and skills to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time. Demonstrates teamwork. Ability to assist and work well with others.
    • Time Management - Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work to complete within required time frames and to follow-up on pending issues. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in dynamic fast-paced environments and under pressure. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate flexibility.
    • Problem Solving - Ability to identify complex problems, review related information, employ creativity and alternative thinking to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Possess good judgment and decision making skills.
