Are you a recent graduate or within your first few years of working towards your PE? AIMRIGHT Testing & Engineering is looking to add an Engineer Intern (EI) to our growing geotechnical engineering team in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of geotechnical and construction materials projects while building toward Professional Engineer licensure.

Why This Role Exists:

The Engineer Intern (EI) position involves performing field work assignments, engineering analysis, and preparing proposals and engineering reports on various geotechnical and construction materials engineering projects in the commercial, transportation, industrial, and residential sectors. You will work alongside experienced engineers who are invested in your professional development, gaining exposure to a diverse portfolio of projects across 5 states.

What You'll Do:

Engineering Analysis & Reporting

• Perform engineering analysis on geotechnical data, including soil classification, bearing capacity calculations, foundation recommendations, and slope stability assessments.

• Assist in preparing geotechnical engineering reports, proposals, and project cost estimates for client submittal.

• Review daily field reports to verify that tests and inspections are being performed in accordance with project specifications.

• Support the design team (Architects, Civil Engineers, Owners, etc.) by providing geotechnical data and recommendations in accordance with AIMRIGHT customer service standards.

Professional Development & Collaboration

• Proactively seek feedback from senior engineers and management regarding performance and identification of areas for professional growth.

• Participate in semi-annual Expectation Reviews with supervisor.

• Work toward passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and ultimately obtaining PE licensure.

• Attend industry and relationship-building functions such as ASCE-GI, AGC, ABC, AIA, and similar organizations; some events may occur outside normal work hours.
• Collaborate with the Engineering Team to support company mission, core values, and customer service standards.

Field Work & Data Collection

• Perform field work assignments on geotechnical and construction materials engineering projects, including soil sampling, field testing, and site observations.

• Review drilling logs and field data; assist in preparing testing schedules and submitting samples for laboratory testing.

• Assist field technicians with technical questions and provide support as needed on project sites.

• Visit project sites to observe conditions, document findings, and verify that project specifications are being met.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

• Assist in maintaining calibration records for equipment and measuring devices; help ensure instruments are inspected and current.

• Support company participation in required proficiency sample programs (PSP) and assist with sample preparation and online submission.

• Assist in maintaining AASHTO, USACE, and other laboratory or field accreditations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 0-6 years of experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, or actively working toward passing.
  • Interest in and commitment to a career in geotechnical engineering.
  • Technical aptitude in geotechnical engineering principles and soil mechanics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to work with field crews and jobsite workers.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Results-driven with effective time management skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be authorized to work legally in the US.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

Preferred Qualifications

• Coursework or project experience in soil mechanics, foundation engineering, or geological engineering.

• Familiarity with geotechnical field and laboratory testing procedures.

• Experience with engineering software such as GEOSYSTEM, LPILE, SoilStructure Settlement Analysis, Volflow, or similar tools.

• EIT certification
