Smith+Nephew is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Intern to support the Manufacturing Engineering team at our Oklahoma City, OK facility. This internship provides hands-on exposure to manufacturing operations, process improvement, and engineering support activities within a regulated medical device manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate is curious, analytical, and motivated to learn, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

What will you be doing?

  • Support Manufacturing Engineering projects focused on manufacturing variance (MUV), cost optimization, and productivity improvement

  • Perform detailed analysis of SAP BOM and cost data to identify discrepancies, improvement opportunities, and standard cost alignment

  • Assist in process mapping, data validation, and root cause analysis for manufacturing and cost variances

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Finance teams to collect and interpret data

  • Develop clear documentation and presentations summarizing findings, savings opportunities, and recommendations

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives including Lean manufacturing, waste reduction, and standardization activities

  • Participate in shop floor observations to connect data insights with actual manufacturing processes

What will you need to be successful?

Education:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering

Experience:

  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel (PivotTables, formulas, data analysis)

  • Ability to work independently on structured projects while collaborating cross-functionally

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Exposure to SAP or other ERP systems

  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, cost structures, or Lean principles

  • Experience with data analysis, process improvement, or engineering coursework/projects
