Under general supervision, this position supports the development and delivery of library programming and provides reference and reader's advisory services, assisting patrons in accessing resources and enhancing their overall library experience.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Apply basic knowledge of library strategic initiatives, community needs, and professional standards to implement effective and engaging programming.
Assist with developing partnerships with community organizations, schools, retirement centers, and other groups to promote library services and resources and to facilitate community engagement.
Provide assistance to the public in conjunction with policy and procedures, including reference help, reader's advisory questions, and instruction in use of library resources and services.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Assist patrons with all facets of circulation services and effectively communicate library policies and procedures.
Assist with material collection activities.
On a nontypical basis, may perform other additional duties not listed in this description that are in alignment with the scope of essential job functions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Knowledge of fundamental reference techniques and information retrieval processes to effectively assist patrons.
Skill in fostering strong interpersonal relationships and collaborating effectively contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment.
Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends, to meet evolving operational requirements.
Skill in designing and delivering engaging presentations and programs to diverse age groups using both traditional and digital formats.
Skill in active listening and rapport building, utilizing effective verbal and non-verbal communication to serve a diverse community of users.
Ability to work autonomously while exercising sound judgment, professional discretion, and the resilience to thrive in a fast-paced setting.
Ability to perform essential physical tasks, including sustained standing, walking, sorting, filing, and precise manual dexterity.
Ability to meet heavy physical demands, including lifting up to 50 lbs., moving up to 75 lbs., and maneuvering equipment or carts weighing up to 300 lbs.
Qualifying Education and Experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively in a bilingual capacity, with a preference for proficiency in Spanish/English, Vietnamese/English, or Arabic/English.
