How much do programmer analyst jobs pay per hour?
What does a program control analyst do?
What is the difference between Programmer Analyst vs Software Developer?
| Aspect | Programmer Analyst | Software Developer |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Role | Analyzes user requirements, designs solutions, and develops applications | Designs, codes, tests, and maintains software applications |
| Required Skills | Programming, analysis, problem-solving, communication | Programming, software design, debugging, project management |
| Work Environment | Often in IT departments, collaborating with analysts and users | In development teams, working on coding and software projects |
| Certifications | Typically none required, but certifications like Microsoft Certified or Java certifications are common | Similar certifications, including programming language certifications and Agile/Scrum |
While both roles involve programming, Programmer Analysts focus on analyzing requirements and designing solutions, whereas Software Developers primarily concentrate on coding and building software applications. The roles often overlap, but the Analyst role emphasizes requirements gathering and system analysis, making it suitable for those with strong communication skills alongside technical expertise.

What Is a Programmer Analyst?
As a programmer analyst, you design, develop, and implement a computer system that is customized to suit a business’ or client’s needs. You can find this work in a variety of industries, including finance, engineering, and science. You meet with supervisors to determine what the business needs are and design a program, application, or database that meets those needs. You then create any required software to go along with the system. Your job duties include performing tests on new programs, debugging as needed, and providing support if required. Other responsibilities include writing and updating procedures and policies related to programming, ensuring hardware is fully functional, and calling for repairs when needed.

Job description
Job Summary -- Essential Functions/Duties
The Senior Electrical / Avionics Integration Engineer is responsible for supporting airworthiness, avionics integration, and limited T2 engineering activities across multiple airborne platforms including rotary-wing, fixed-wing, ISR, and specialized mission aircraft. This position provides independent technical assessment, peer review, limited integration-level engineering support, and airworthiness risk evaluation for aircraft modifications, sustainment actions, instrumentation integration, mission systems, and contractor-developed engineering packages.
The ideal candidate will:
- Perform effectively both independently and as part of a multi-disciplined engineering team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Provide technical review and integration support for electrical and avionics modifications across multiple aircraft platforms.
- Support T2 engineering activities including antenna relocation, instrumentation integration, wiring updates, mission equipment integration, and subsystem modifications.
- Develop and review engineering analyses, interface definitions, electrical load assessments, wiring diagrams, and technical data packages for airworthiness impacts and technical adequacy.
- Conduct engineering analysis associated with avionics integration, aircraft electrical systems, EMI/EMC considerations, and aircraft interface compatibility.
- Develop or modify CAD drawings, wiring schematics, installation concepts, and integration documentation in support of airborne modifications.
- Support airworthiness assessments, technical review boards, flight release discussions, and systems safety activities.
- Coordinate integration impacts across structures, systems safety, propulsion, flight controls, configuration management, and sustainment engineering disciplines.
- Support technical trade studies, integration recommendations, and engineering change documentation.
- Prepare technical assessment memorandums, risk summaries, engineering recommendations, and customer briefings.
- Serve as a technical interface with Government Chief Engineers, Technical Authorities (TA), platform contractors, and customer representatives.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of configuration baselines and technical package traceability.
- Support flight test readiness reviews and aircraft modification planning activities as required.
- Provide engineering judgment and technical leadership for integration-level activities while operating within defined airworthiness and contractual boundaries.
- Perform other job-related duties, as required
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Avionics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline. A master's degree is preferred, but not required. A combination of formal education, advanced technical training, and equivalent experience may be considered.

A Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited academic institution and 16 years of related engineering experience, or an accredited Master of Science in Engineering and a minimum of 12 years of related engineering experience, or an accredited doctorate degree in engineering and a minimum of eight years of related engineering experience are required for this position.
In addition, an Engineer VI must possess the following qualifications:
- Minimum of 12 years of relevant engineering experience with aircraft avionics systems, airborne integration activities, airworthiness support, or military aircraft modification programs.
- Experience supporting military or Government aircraft integration programs involving avionics, instrumentation, mission systems, communications systems, sensors, or airborne subsystem modifications.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing and interpreting engineering drawings, interface definitions, wiring diagrams, and technical data packages.
- Experience with electrical design activities, wiring integration, CAD drawing development/modification, or installation package support.
- Familiarity with aircraft electrical systems, power distribution, EMI/EMC considerations, and avionics integration practices.
- Experience participating in technical reviews, airworthiness reviews, systems engineering activities, or flight test support environments.
- Knowledge of configuration management principles and engineering change processes.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-882, MIL-HDBK-516, MIL-HDBK-1530, and related airworthiness or systems engineering guidance is highly desired.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
- Ability to review contractor-developed analyses and identify technical, integration, and airworthiness risks.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information to engineers, program managers, Government customers, and leadership.
- Experience using engineering drawing or CAD tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, or equivalent tools is highly desirable.
