Job Summary

The Decentralized Clinical Trials ( DCT ) Operations Administrator is a strategic role at Huntsman Cancer Institute responsible for advancing decentralized clinical trial operations while expanding access to care on clinical trials for the patients HCI serves across the five-state Mountain West, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, Montana. This position provides operational, and programmatic leadership for decentralized and hybrid clinical trial operations, with emphasis on strategically building the hub-and-spoke infrastructure, workflows, partnerships, and service models needed to extend high-quality clinical trial services beyond the main campus in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Serving as a clinical trials liaison to external entities, regional partners, affiliate locations, community-based organizations, sponsors, investigators, and operational stakeholders this position supports decentralized trial delivery and strengthens access to clinical trials throughout the region. The position advances the DCT Initiative that HCI leads as part of the Rural Healthcare Initiative and Area We Serve clinical trial operations, including coordination with the Rural Connections to Research program within the University of Utah Clinical Trials Support Institute Clinical and Translational Science Institute ( CTSI ) where appropriate to align regional access strategies. Responsibilities
  • Serve as the operational administrator for HCI’s decentralized clinical trials portfolio, supporting advancement of clinical trial access and services across the five-state Mountain West.
  • Design, implement, and manage hub-and-spoke operations that enable decentralized and hybrid clinical trial services across academic, affiliate, community, rural, and frontier settings.
  • Serve as a clinical trials liaison to external entities, regional partners, affiliate locations, sponsors, investigators, and community-based organizations to strengthen trial delivery and patient access throughout the region.
  • Lead planning, implementation, and ongoing management of decentralized trial components, including virtual visits, electronic consent, remote data capture, wearable technologies, remote monitoring, home-based services, and other patient-centered trial supports.
  • Together with OSP / OGC , manage contracts, service agreements, and operational relationships supporting decentralized trial activities.
  • Advance the HCI -led DCT Initiative by coordinating clinical trial operations, regional workflows, external partnerships, and service models that align with the Rural Healthcare Initiative and Area We Serve clinical trial priorities.
  • Support activation and ongoing management of participating sites and service partners, ensuring operational readiness, consistent workflows, partner communication, and integration of decentralized services into active clinical trials.
  • Identify operational gaps and barriers in decentralized trial delivery and implement scalable solutions that improve access, efficiency, quality, and participant experience.
  • Lead and support multidisciplinary teams by providing training, mentorship, and guidance on decentralized workflows, technologies, standard operating procedures, and good clinical practice in remote and distributed settings.
  • Represent HCI in regional operational discussions related to decentralized trial delivery, access barriers, affiliate engagement, partner capabilities, and sustainable models for serving patients across the Mountain West.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA , ICH - GCP , NIH , sponsor, and institutional requirements, maintaining high standards for regulatory documentation, data integrity, participant safety, and audit readiness.
  • Develop, refine, and implement standard operating procedures, quality improvement initiatives, and corrective actions using operational data, performance metrics, and stakeholder feedback.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred. This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.   • Bachelor’s degree preferred; advanced degree in health sciences, public health, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in clinical research operations, regulatory governance for clinical trials, and regional research program administration.
  • Demonstrated expertise in trial operations, partner engagement, contract coordination, regulatory compliance, and clinical trial network development.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to manage complex, cross-institutional initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across broad geographic, institutional, community, affiliate, and clinical settings throughout the Mountain West.
