Programmatic Publisher information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Programmatic Publisher, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Programmatic Publisher, you need strong analytical skills, digital advertising knowledge, and experience with ad operations, often supported by a degree in marketing, business, or a related field. Proficiency with demand-side platforms (DSPs), supply-side platforms (SSPs), ad exchanges, and analytics tools like Google Ad Manager and DoubleClick is typically required. Outstanding communication, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail help you optimize revenue and build strong relationships with advertisers. These skills and qualities are crucial for maximizing inventory value, ensuring efficient ad delivery, and maintaining competitive advantage in the digital advertising ecosystem.

How does a Programmatic Publisher typically collaborate with advertisers and ad tech partners to optimize revenue?

A Programmatic Publisher works closely with advertisers, demand-side platforms (DSPs), and ad tech partners to maximize ad revenue and fill rates. This involves managing relationships, troubleshooting delivery issues, and leveraging analytics to adjust floor prices or ad placements for better performance. Publishers often participate in regular meetings with partners to review campaign effectiveness, discuss inventory opportunities, and ensure compliance with brand safety and viewability standards. Collaborating across these teams helps publishers stay agile in a rapidly changing digital advertising landscape and ensures they are positioned to capture the most value from their inventory.

What is a Programmatic Publisher?

A Programmatic Publisher is a company or individual who owns digital media properties, such as websites or apps, and sells ad space on those properties through automated, real-time bidding platforms. They use programmatic advertising technology to connect their inventory with advertisers, maximizing revenue by allowing multiple buyers to bid for ad placement. Programmatic publishers rely on tools like ad exchanges, supply-side platforms (SSPs), and demand-side platforms (DSPs) to automate and optimize the sale of their ad inventory. This process increases efficiency, transparency, and targeting capabilities compared to traditional ad sales methods.

Job description

Job Description
Senior Account Executive, B2B (Remote)
BuySellAds helps brands connect with niche, hard-to-reach audiences through advertising campaigns across a suite of premium publishers. We specialize in crafting multi-faceted campaigns across web, social, and email channels - helping emerging and established brands hit their unique KPIs.
Our publishers include Carbon Ads, Mozilla Developer Network, and The Rundown. Our advertisers include GitLab, MongoDB, Okta, AWS, and Google Cloud. We sit in between, making both sides more successful.
Here's what makes us different: we sell unique native ads and email newsletter placements that aren't accessible through programmatic exchanges. Think emails folks are excited to open, sites people set as their homepage, apps you love telling your friends about. We help marketers show up in those places - and it converts like crazy.
We've been fully remote since 2007. Our team of 20+ is spread across the globe, connected through weekly video standups and Slack. We work largely around an EST schedule but stay flexible. We're bootstrapped, profitable, and forging our own path.
Role Overview
We're hiring a Senior Sales Executive to join our team and drive new business. This is a hunter role - you'll prospect and close outbound deals through personal, thoughtful outreach (no bulk drip campaigns here), while also fielding inbound leads and crafting tailored solutions for clients.
The ideal person for this role has experience working with B2B marketers to solve real marketing challenges. You're someone who builds strong relationships, develops a deep understanding of our publisher audiences and ad products, and stays close to accounts well beyond the initial close.
What you'll do
  • Prospect and close new business through personal, hands-on outbound outreach
  • Field inbound leads, assess client needs, and propose custom-tailored campaign solutions that fit within each client's broader media mix
  • Serve as a strategic media advisor to clients - asking the right questions about attribution, measurement, and full-funnel performance to ensure our solutions align with their business goals
  • Develop deep product knowledge across BuySellAds' ad opportunities and publisher audiences
  • Build strong, lasting relationships with clients, teammates, and partners across the industry
  • Support Client Success Managers post-close through the campaign lifecycle, staying engaged through renewal
  • Become fluent in your clients' goals - current and future - so you can anticipate needs and add value over time
What you'll bring
  • 4+ years of media sales experience
  • A strong understanding of the digital advertising landscape - you can speak fluently about media planning fundamentals, campaign measurement and attribution, and how different channels work together across the funnel, even if you're not the one pulling the levers day-to-day
  • A genuine excitement for helping marketers solve complex problems
  • The ability to work independently and consistently deliver meaningful results
  • Strong organizational skills paired with comfort navigating out-of-the-box requests
  • A learning mindset - you thrive when picking up new tactics, tools, and industry knowledge
  • Comfort working in a fully remote, fast-changing environment
  • A client-focused approach grounded in data and analytics
  • Agency relationship experience is a plus, but not required
Our Hiring Process
We keep it straightforward: an initial meet-and-greet over Zoom, followed by a team pairing session to make sure the culture fit goes both ways. We move quickly on decisions and aim to respond to every applicant with feedback - even if we're not the right match, we want you to know rather than wonder.
About BuySellAds
Since 2007, we've been 100% remote with team members across the globe. We offer competitive salary and benefits. We're proud to be bootstrapped and building something that lasts. If this sounds like your kind of team, we'd love to hear from you.
