What are some common challenges faced by Program Managers when coordinating multiple projects simultaneously?

Program Managers often face the challenge of balancing competing priorities across several projects, each with its own stakeholders, timelines, and resource requirements. Effective communication and strong organizational skills are crucial to address potential conflicts, align goals, and ensure that dependencies are managed properly. Collaborating closely with project managers, team leads, and executives is essential to mitigate risks, adapt to shifting business needs, and keep the overall program on track. Staying proactive and adaptable helps Program Managers successfully navigate these complexities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Program Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Program Manager, you need strong project management abilities, organizational skills, and experience in overseeing multiple projects, often supported by a bachelor’s degree in business or a related field. Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help Program Managers coordinate teams and stakeholders effectively. These competencies are crucial for delivering complex programs on time, within scope, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

What are Program Managers?

Program Managers are professionals responsible for coordinating, overseeing, and guiding multiple related projects within an organization to achieve strategic goals. They ensure that projects within a program align with business objectives, manage resources, mitigate risks, and communicate with stakeholders. Job description

Description:

Get to know Thompson!

Thompson was founded in 1886 as an orphanage and has grown into an organization operating across the Carolinas, Florida Tennessee, and Kentucky. Thompson’s continuum of care encompasses three domains: prevention, mental health services, and foster care. All Thompson programs are trauma-informed and evidence-based/evidence-informed with the intention of building resilience in our clients (ages 0-18) and their families, both virtually and in person. Our values are Excellence, Innovation, Commitment, Caring, and Integrity.

For 140 years, Thompson Child & Family Focus has stood beside children and families in their hardest moments. Now we're bringing that same commitment to relative caregivers across the Chattanooga region — grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other relatives who stepped up for a child with little notice and even less preparation.

We're looking for a Program Supervisor who knows what it looks like when kinship case management works — and who won't accept anything less from their team.

What you'll do: You'll lead a team of Kinship Case Manager Navigators serving relative caregiver families throughout Hamilton County and the surrounding region. You'll be in case reviews every week, in the file audits every month, and in the room when a Navigator needs help thinking through a hard case. You'll know your team's caseloads in detail — not because a dashboard told you, but because you're the one keeping it that way.

What does this position offer?

  • Starting Pay Range: $50-60k annually
  • Fantastic Full-time benefits…..
  • 3 weeks paid time off (PTO) the first year plus 10 paid Holidays!
  • Health, Dental, Vision, Short-Term and Long-Term Disability and Life insurance options
  • 401K Match
  • Education Reimbursement
  • Clinical Supervision Reimbursement of $60 for eligible candidates obtaining licensure
  • Eligibility to apply for Public Service Loan Forgiveness through FAFSA after 10 years of service
  • Eligibility to apply for the state loan repayment program that repays up to $50,000 of student loans
  • Paid time off for volunteering in the community
  • Free EAP services
  • Mileage Reimbursement if applicable
  • iPhone and Laptop provided
  • Multiple opportunities for growth

What you'll get: A team that backs you, infrastructure that lets you focus on people instead of paperwork, and the chance to build something new in Tennessee with an organization that's been doing this work since 1886.

Requirements:

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:

Must have a valid Driver’s License and meet any credentialing, licensing and privileging standards as it pertains to the program(s) they lead.

As a Leader of Others, this role’s minimum qualifications are:

  • 3+ years of child welfare or human services experience, with supervisory experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, or related field (Master's preferred)
  • A commitment to families that doesn't waver when the work gets hard
  • The ability to hold high standards and high support at the same time

You’re the right fit for the Program Supervisor if…

  • You have a passion for working with youth & adolescents!
  • You enjoy knowing you’re making an IMPACT on the lives of others!
  • EXCELLENCE, INNOVATION, COMMITMENT, CARING, AND INTEGRITY are important to you!

If your qualifications meet the requirements of the job and you want to be part of a winning culture, don’t delay! Apply at thompsoncff.org where we are strengthening Children, Families, and Communities!

Thompson is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
