PAY RANGE: DOE

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The CMA III provides basic care to patients and helps in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the RN/LPN in the clinic setting. The CMA as the ability to maintain regulatory requirements, nursing and office/ clinic policies, procedures, and standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Escorts patients to examining rooms, takes detailed medical histories, and determines the reason for the visit.
  • Maintains established office/clinic policies and procedures, goals, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards, and protocols.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families per office/clinic standards.
  • Provides general aspects of care that meet psychosocial or physical needs or both simultaneously, within the nursing assistant’s scope of practice.
  • Meets communication needs of patients.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Finds and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family.
  • Demonstrates performance reflecting the initiative and responsibility expected of a nursing assistant.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, within the Medical Assistant’s scope of practice.
  • Performs basic patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
  • Notifies proper licensed personnel when patient complaints.
  • Maintains knowledge of operation and maintenance of clinical equipment, drugs, and supplies.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate to the RN or LPN any observed changes in patient status and responses. Maintains awareness of the needs of the pediatric, geriatric, and general patient population.
  • Response is proper to the patient in emergencies or physically distressful situations.
  • Must have strong oral communication skills (reading, writing, speaking and comprehension).

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of periods of standing and bending.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a graduate of a recognized Medical Assistant program
  • North Dakota (ND) registration as an MAIII through the ND Board of Nursing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification needed within six months of employment.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Must complete a background check and drug screening.
