Certified Nurse Assistant-Hospital- PRN
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) provides services to assigned patients in accordance with care plans, facility policies and procedures and at the direction of supervisor(s).
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Maintains established hospital policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards, and protocols
  • Maintains a clean, safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Provides general aspects of care that meet psychosocial or physical needs or both simultaneously, within the nursing assistant's scope of practice.
  • Meets communication needs of patients.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family.
  • Demonstrates performance reflecting the initiative and responsibility expected of a nursing assistant.
  • Assists in admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintains confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.
  • Assist with orientation of new employees
  • Use proper lifting and body mechanics while delivering care to patients and meet the physical demands of the position.
  • Reports changes in a patient's condition to the patient's nurse and/or supervisor.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all equipment used in treatment of patients
  • Maintains and replaces supplies on unit assigned.
  • As a condition of employment, completes all assigned training and skills competency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, within the Nursing Assistant's scope of practice.

Physical Requirements:
  • Physically demanding, high-stress environment
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions
  • Standing and walking for extensive periods of time
  • Ability to assist in evacuation of patients during emergency situations.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to perform patient care.
  • Ability to lift, move, push or pull a minimum of 35 pounds.
  • May be subject to falls, burns from equipment, and/or odors throughout the day; encounter reactions from dust, tobacco smoke, disinfectants, and other air contaminants.
  • Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases and/or conditions which include AIDS, Coronavirus, Hepatitis B, and Tuberculosis.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Working irregular hours including after hours

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the public.
  • Must be able to relay information concerning a patient's condition.
  • May be subject to hostile or emotional patients, family members, visitors or personnel.
  • Must possess leadership, supervisory ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicates with medical and nursing staff, and other departments.
  • Subject to call-back during emergency conditions.
  • Basic computer skills, including ability to navigate electronic medical record systems.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions.
  • May work beyond normal working hours and on weekends holidays when necessary.
  • In-depth knowledge of long-term care practices and protocols.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.

Education/Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year prior experience in ER/Med-Surg preferred but not required.

Licenses/Certifications:
  • Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing with the state.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
