Summary
This position serves as the Program Support Assistant for Postgraduate Education and Training and is assigned to the office of the Chief, Surgical Service. The incumbent provides technical assistant to the Chief of the Surgery, the Assistant Chief of Surgery, and the Administrative Officer.

Duties
Help
Duties to include but not limited to:
- Coordination for Surgical Residents and the Surgical Service Programs ;Stool Lecture Program with the University and VA Surgical Staff
- Serves as the interface between the students at the Medical Center and then Medical Administration Service
- Responsible for information flow and dissemination within the service and to the universities
- Assists the Administrative Officer in the administration of the Residency Program at the Medical Center including scheduling, processing, evaluation, and accountability for the Residency Program in coordination with the universities
- Coordinates schedule assignments based on the needs of the Surgical Service and in coordination with the participating institutions
- Reviews all evaluation and brings to the attention of the Chief, Surgical Service, inclusive of pertinent information
- Distribution and collection of all Medical Student evaluations. processes the information and communicates it to the universities
as required.
- Provide support to the Program Director, Chief Resident's, University Coordinators, and the Administrative Officer
- Prepares and distributes letters of recommendation from the Chief of Surgery, and other Surgical Service Staff, as requested by the Surgical Residents and Medical Students
- Prepares appropriate forms for travel and reimbursement for members of the Surgical Service
- Perform secretarial duties adherent in the continually daily functions of the Surgical Service.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm, 7:30am to 4:00pm or 8:00am to 4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/12/2026.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
- Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Ensures program compliance with all applicable policies and regulations, Ensures program compliance with all applicable policies and regulations, Investigates complex issues and analyzes problems that affect the management of an organization, Provides weekly documentation of productivity via list of operations by surgical specialty and report of CPT coding accuracy to quality management and infection disease service, solely responsible for entering residents privileges into MS PowerPoint that records major and minor surgical procedure and is a requirement for joint commission accreditation and is responsible for updating information on the Medical Center website and relationships to monthly on-call schedules.
Best Qualified Criteria:
- Possess demonstrated some experience supporting post graduate education and training within the Surgical Service or a similar clinical environment, including coordination of residents and medical students
- Strong administrative and computer skills for scheduling, tracking, and documentation; and the ability to work accurately under pressure with multiple stakeholders
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions, and show a proven ability to resolve problems, manage competing priorities, and complete tasks efficiently with minimal errors.

- Account Provisioning/Deprovisioning System experience
