REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Children and Adult Case Management, Children and Adult Support Services, Employment

POSTION OVERVIEW: The Senior Director, Children and Adult Programs serves as a member of the MHA Executive team in strategic planning, operations, risk management and other administrative matters. Demonstrates leadership and vision for maximizing MHA development and support that achieve good health, citizenship, emotional soundness and supportive family life environments for at-risk children and adults. The Senior Director represents Mental Health America of South Central Kansas by participation on boards, committees, and coalitions to foster collaborative relationships. Maintains standards for accreditation and compliance with contracts.


ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serves as a member of the MHA Executive Team in strategic planning, operations, risk management and other administrative matters. Collaborates with other staff to seize opportunities for the agency.
  2. Spearheads the development and implementation of creative strategies to promote/expand prevention, children and adult rehabilitation and mentoring services.
  3. Serves as a public advocate and educator, aware of and involved in citywide and community issues relevant to MHA programs. Represents MHA by participation on boards, committees, and coalitions to foster mutually helpful relationships.
  4. Fosters partnership relationships with schools and other community organizations.
  5. Provides leadership and support to program staff toward maximizing program performance and productivity. Includes conducting regular meetings and training to ensure appropriate supervision and support to staff. Seeks to integrate programming to achieve program efficiency and effectiveness.
  6. Handles personnel matters effectively and consistently with existing policies, including: interviewing, hiring, counseling, terminating, and completing annual evaluations for employees. Provides appropriate documentation. Determines appropriate staffing to meet program and budgetary needs.
  7. Plans, organizes, and directs, through subordinate staff, all activities of the supervised programs.
  8. Identifies technology needs and solutions to meet division needs.
  9. Assists in ensuring QMHP oversight for adult and children’s programs.
  10. Ensures that program staff provides training of new employees and performs on-going staff support & training to meet program goals.
  11. Ensures fidelity to evidence-based models and consults with their developers as needed.
  12. Monitors service delivery through review of program notes, observation of services, approval of time worked, mileage and expense records, and participation in one-on-one conferences with workers, in addition to group training and coordination sessions.
  13. Initiates grants, contracts, and other fundraising activities in conjunction with the CEO, Development Director and others as needed.
  14. Works with CEO, COO and CFO to assure overall program operations are consistent with budget.

OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Maintains acceptable overall attendance record, to include department staff meetings, agency meetings, and trainings as required. Ensures appropriate notification to supervisor for absences, and ensures that work is covered. Flexible in work schedule when needed.
  2. Working with CEO to develop strategies to maximize MHA participation in managed mental health care.
  3. Exhibits appropriate level of technical knowledge for the position.
  4. Produces quantity of work necessary to meet job requirements.
  5. Works well with a team, keeps others informed of information needed. Treats others with respect, maintaining a spirit of cooperation.
  6. Maintains effective and professional verbal and written interactions with peers, customers, supervisors and other staff. Uses diplomacy and tact in dealing with difficult situations or people. Demonstrates effective listening skills. Is receptive to constructive feedback.
  7. Demonstrates the ability and willingness to handle new assignments, changes in procedures and business requirements. Identifies what needs to be done and takes appropriate action.
  8. Completes assigned work, meets deadlines without reminders/follow-up from supervisor or others.
  9. Performs work conscientiously with a high degree of accuracy.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Senior Director, Children and Adult Programs is expected to have a Master’s degree in social sciences or related field and must hold a license by the State of Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board. Requires proven success in collaborating on projects or programs with internal and community partners. Minimum 3 years experience in a leadership role and supervising staff in a social service agency required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, cultural competency, knowledge of child/family dynamics, program planning including knowledge of budgets and money management, and strong detail orientation and organizational skills. Must also have knowledge of grant application processes, expenditure tracking, and statistical reporting. The ability to work flexible hours for meetings and community events, work under pressure to meet deadlines, and the ability to travel when required for meetings, research and training is vital.
